hurry, hurry, hurry, go to bengal curry!

great, very inexpensive, little indian place a couple blocks north of the former WTC. if you like authentic indian food, this is the place. very clean dining area, take out, or local delivery [by bicycle]. the proprietors don't speak great english, but the food does all the talking. they were knocked out of business for four months after 9/11, but they survived to the gratefulness of the neighborhood businesses and employees as they can get a good lunch delivered to them. give it a try!

    not recommended

first off, we ordered late one night so they decided they would raise the minimum delivery to $15 and they raised the prices on everything on their menu without any notice. next, they charged a delivery fee. the delivery guy was very rude, when he came up to the condo, he forced the door opened as i told him i would be right back with more money so i slammed the door in his face and decided not to tip him. the food was not good, the roti and naan were burnt, the aloo was still cold, and the chicken mahkani wasnt made properly.

    Not so hot meal

I tried this place based on reviewers’ comments. I ordered the boneless chicken and two vegetable plate with rice and an extra nan. I thought the chicken was greasy and had no flavor...actually it had a weird flavor like too much cinnamon or something and the chicken was incredibly fatty. The vegetables were okay and the rice was dry. The nan was nothing special. I came here because of all the talk about the place being cheap. I paid nine dollars for my meal. Mind you I ordered an extra nan and a can of soda but I think nine dollars is a lot for some food slopped on a plastic plate. I think there are better cheap eats places with better tasting higher quality food (unless they were having a really off day).

    High and Dry

I picked my girlfriend up at work for the first time and I was starving. We saw this restaurant and decided to give it a try. While inside I noticed that they bragged about being the second rated cheap Indian restaurant on Menupages and expected a good meal. I ordered the Tandoori chicken and meat samosa and my girlfriend ordered some beef dish that I can't remember to go. I ate the samosa on the train and while it was tasty, it was extremely dry. Once we got home, I found out the the naan that I ordered wasn't in the bag and my chicken was dry as well. My girlfriend couldn't even finish her meal. Once I visited the Menupages site I see that the rating they received was based on two votes, not exactly an overwhelming endorsement. I do not recommend.

    Good value - zero frills

Folks this is as basic as it gets. Just some good, basic, not too fatty, not too spicy Indian food - nothing fancy here. The one dish I like a lot is Goat curry with a garlic nan. For about $6, its a steal. They also serve good tandoori chicken, assorted vegetable and meat curries, and daal etc. Atmosphere is spartan and charm is non existent, but the service is very friendly. This is like the Pakistan Tea House but with slightly less tasty food and much better seating space. Both are catering to the same crowd - people in a hurry who want to stop by and have basic but filling Indian food at prices your wallet will like.

    Good food at good price

This is one of those no-frill-all-good-food joints. At $5 you get rice, meat and two vegetables. Definitely enough for a hungry person, but good for two people also. We had a beef preparation, it was damn good! The spices were properly cooked and mixed. We ate at 11 on a Fri night. I do not know the exact hours, but worth checking out.
