    Excellent Lunch

This “Bring out the Chefs for an applause” restaurant, serves an array of the most incredible Scallops, Tandoori Lamb, sautéed Lobster and spiced Chicken, with the amazing flavors -that are simply transcendent- of coconut, mangos, tomatoes and chutneys; [fabulous spices of curry, ginger and cumin] and cucumbers in yogurt, in the most exotic creamy sauces (vegetables included). Their “to-die-for” dessert is definitely the 'Gulab Jamun' (Honey Dumpling)! You are greeted and attended by their extremely gracious Manager, who is totally friendly, pleasing and well experienced in his fine selection of wonderfully delicious dishes to suit your palate. The decor is elegantly simple, and -no paying for 'power lunches or dinners'- but for inexpensively authentic but difficult to surpass Indian Cuisine.

    Very pleased

Very good food & caring service! I went there on Monday for dinner, after having a very good experience with the food in excellent delivery & was impressed by the diversity in the menu. The Chicken Curry home style (recommended by the friendly Manager) was excellent, and so were the appetizers. Benares is definitely one my favourite places to eat now

    Poor delivery experience

I ordered on Seamless, and it took almost two hours to get my food, despite my location being three blocks from the restaurant. When my food arrived, it was cold and they did not include the naan I ordered (and paid for). Not sure how the food would have tasted if it was hot, but I will never order from Benares again.

    Glad we took the chance!

We read some mixed review of this place, but decided to go anyway. We were very glad that we did! The food was excellent. We are vegetarian and had 2 appetizers, 2 dishes, bread, raita, and 4 drinks. Everything was outstanding. I'd recommend this place to anyone.

    Inedible!

I ordered a Lunch Special Vegetarian platter and was totally disappointed.... The salad, raita, chutneys that came with is pretty much inedible. Vegetarian platter comes with two main dishes, so I got Paneer Tikka Masala and Aloo Gobi. Both were bland and I couldn’t finish it. I can’t believe i paid $10 for this lunch... Overall sub-par quality and quantity

    Best Indian delivery!

Ive lived on the UWS for 10 years, and this is the best Indian food and service in the (nearest) 'hood in my experience. They've been consistently polite, puntual, and priced-right. The food quality is top notch -- white meat, flavorful spices, and generous portions. I highly recommend!

    delicious

Got some takeout, and it was an unusually nice experience. A very patient and charming man on the phone helped me with choosing my food, and when I arrived before my order was ready, I was given a seat. The restaurant looked very nice, with modern, pleasant decor. Everyone who worked there said hello and smiled. The food itself was very tasty, and a good value -- $15.75 for a sizeable appetizer, entree, chutnies, raita, and a large nan and rice. Enough for one extremely hungry diner, or 2 nice meals. Everything was fresh, tasty, and well-made. I'll be ordering from here again.
