Great place to eat in the city!

We ate at Ben and Jack's last night for the first time. From the moment we walked in the staff was attentive, warm, and friendly. We were seated immediately in a cozy alcove which made our experience even nicer. Our waiter was knowledgeable, and very helpful with our selections from the wine to the entree. The steak was cooked to perfection, and served expertly. I highly recommend the fries, and the mushrooms, both were a taste sensation. We also had the Ben and Jack's seafood dish which can be made with either a red sauce, or white sauce. We chose the red and were so glad we did. It was a masterpiece of tastes. Dessert was the perfect ending with cheeses cakes, carrot cake, key lime pie, and the most wonderful whipped cream we had ever eaten. If you are looking for a wonderful dining experience, this is the place to go. Oh don't forget to try the warm home-made potato chips while enjoying your cocktail, you'll want to eat the whole basket!

    The best, by chance

We recently spent 12 days in New York for vacations and, being two Italian meat lovers, we decided to try one different steak house every evening. They had to be renowned and well rated. Prior to our trip, we collected testimonials and references from the internet and from reliable friends, colleagues and gourmands who visited NYC before us. In a city like this, you may imagine how fast and easy was to fill our short list. But, this restaurant did not make it. Around the middle of our stay, after a long walk from south Manhattan towards our hotel, we stumbled into Ben & Jack’s and we chose to modify our schedule replacing the designated name of that evening with this anonymous (to us) place. For what regarded our quest for an outstanding steak house, this one turned out to be the best decision of the whole vacation - if compared with all other celebrated restaurants we visited before and after that day: nice venue, professional and friendly staff, fair price and exceptional food quality. We do not mind if others won’t heed our humble recommendation; but if we’ll happen to be again in the Big Apple (for business or leisure), Ben & Jack’s will see us very often.

    Best steak in the city!

I took my wife here for our 25th anniversary and I couldn't ask for a better experience. As soon as we were seated, our waiter came over and provided his amazing service from beginning to end. We started off with Caesar salads, which were pretty good. But the actual steak was the best part. The porter house for 2 was amazing, words can not explain. It was tender and juicy and just plain mouth watering! The sides were just as amazing (we ordered the creamed spinach and German potatoes). To top it all off, the dessert was Delicious, especially their home made whipped cream (we took the extra to go, it was that good). Overall, best steakhouse in the city, I'll never go back to any other ones. Amazing!

    Quantity over quality

Dined here on 6-6-11 with family of four. The restaurant was nearly empty when we arrived, but filled up quickly and service never waivered. Unfortunatley, the steaks were mediocre at best. I would rather pay for a quality steak over quantity any day, and this was not this type of place. The size of the steak was large enough to feed a small army. Steaks are too big, but if you look at the unit cost (ounces to lbs of beef) of the steak, it will rival a Golden Coral or Sizzler. Save your money and try another restaurant for steak. The best part of the meal were the desserts with the awesome homemade schlag, or whipped cream. If your idea of a good meal is quality over quantity, and need to choke down desrts after consuming a side of beef, then by all means eat here. However, I will keep looking for the ever elusive great NYC steakhouse.

    Best steakhouse in NYC

I cannot put into words how much of an enjoyable experience I have when I go to Ben & Jack's. The hostess is always friendly. The bartender is delightful, the waiters are very attentive and so professional. Even the managers/owners come around with a smile. The steak is worth it's value and the sides are delicious! If you go there more than a few times you truly become a part of their family. If you want the ultimate steak experience, go here! Period.

    glop

Ate lunch here. Caesar salad drenched in dressing. Grilled salmon that was half inedible due to gristle, some indifferent broccoli with no flavor or seasoning, and a blob of mashed potatoes. A diner would have been embarrassed to serve those vegetables.
