Went here (rather than trekking to Brooklyn for Peter Luger's), and the food itself was almost as tasty. The menu is virtually a copy of PL, but not sure if the quality was as good. The really strange part was the atmosphere and service. We were seated in a mostly empty side dining area, and there seemed to be about 10 more waiters than necessary, tripping over each other, aiming to please, I suppose. It made for an overly forced formal and awkward atmosphere. Granted, at these prices, you want attentive service, but it verged on creepy.

This is still one of my favorite steak joints - the meat is stellar. Unfortunately, the service is consistently average - the waiters are gruff and definitely give you attitude if you don't order what they consider enough food.

I love steak and I have been to most of the good steak houses in the city. I went to Ben and Jack's few times and I never had a bad meal. Last night I went there with the client and had a great time. The quality of their food hasn't change at all since they opened. The service was good as well. Will go back soon!

Good place to go with large parties. Greeted very nice when you walk in. Great selection of wines and the martini are filled to the top. Always have a good time

We were seated promptly at a nicely situated table. Bread basket was excellent! I ordered a Merlot by the glass, which was OK (nothing great, nothing bad). We both ordered a Filet medium rare. Both came out very medium which was a disappointment. However, the quality of the beef was excellent! My German Potatoes were not to my liking, but others might well enjoy them. Sliced thinly and then cooked they came out too crispy for my taste. All in all it was a nice meal, but were I to return and order a medium rare Filet and not get it, II would send my Filet back, something I am very reluctant to do. Service, by the way, was excellent, even on New Years Eve.

7PM reservation-7PM seating. Waiter was personable-sharp-knowledgeable. Food was jsut great. I had steak for two with my wife-other couple had fish. Everyone was delighted. Recommend without reservation. Was there Nov 7, 2008

The medallion is very thick and tasty... a pleasure in the mouth! However, the wine isn't good and the creme brulee either! This place is great but the people serving you are impolite. Come for the meat, the spinach and the baked potatoes! That's it!
