I've been trying out all the steak places in NY and have now ruled out Ben & Jack's as a return option. To start, I didn't feel like I was in a high end steakhouse. Now sure, you get that at Peter Luger's, but on purpose. This just didn't seem like a well cared for place. The kitchen door squeaked so loud every time it opened that it was terribly distracting. The bathroom was not very nice either. The food: -Seafood platter was good if limited in variety - Lobster tail, Crabmeat & Shrimp Cocktail. Most steak places do a little more, like oysters or mussels, or an interesting sauce etc. -Thick cut bacon was quite nice. -My lamb chop was gorgeous and huge, but the plate was literally swimming in oil, and the chop had a ton of fat on it. I ended up eating very little of it. -The german potatoes were just mediocre home fries and the mushrooms were, again, swimming in oil. -Dessert was good, but tartufo is hard to mess up. I couldn't remember exactly what tartufo was at first, so I asked and the waiter was like "you know, black and white ice cream and stuff". Um, how about the cherry in the center and the chocolate shell? -When I first arrived I had asked if they had any dessert wine and the bartender told me just port. Later, when they gave us dessert menus I saw they did indeed have moscato, which is what I had wanted. Overall, I'd say go to many of the cities other excellent steakhouses instead of there.

Had dinner there last night, food is good and as I read, it is owned by former Peter Luger guys. Steak came out in the sizzling plate (but not in butter like at Ruth Chris) as they do at Peter Lugers. The steak as very good. Value was so so based on price, but it is Manhattan and you will pay a premium. I would recommend it for a good meal.

Overall a very well run steakhouse. Great prix-fixed lunch menu! Service was on point. Their steak sauce (bottled) is one of the best, far superior than Peter Luger's bottled concoction. And who need's Luger with Ben & Jack's is conveniently located in the City.

Best filet mignon I've ever had. Nothing else matters.

Service and food was the show . A prime steak for two was outstanding . We were a party of eleven and the service was impeccable . It seamed that there were three servers for every patron. A real NY treat.!

Overall a great atmosphere, with a great staff that is very attentive. You definitely get what you pay for, the steak and service is excellent. I have been to many steakhouses such as Peter Lugers, Wolfgang, and Sparks and I think that Ben and Jacks has one of the best steaks I've ever tried. The manager is very friendly, and does a great job making sure that staff is attentive and service is top-notch. My personal favorite is the rib-eye steak for two. I was very surprised at how good the food and service was from this not-so-big name steakhouse.

Had the fixed price daily menue - good value (soup/salat, steak, dessert, coffee $ 50) . Steak was perfect, as well as the side orders. However, it was too much. Service was good but not outstanding. We had dinner on a Sunday evening and the restaurant was nearly empty. Even we were only a party of two gratuity was added to the check without letting us know - not a fair method treating guests - even they are tourists. This was a little bit annoying as NYC residents told us, that this behaviour is not OK.
