Ben Ash Delicatessen

I normally try to stay away from diners, for though their 10-page menus seek to offer anyone anything they could possibly want to eat, all it really serves to do is ensure that whatever is brought out of the kitchen is going to be of low quality. Ben Ash is the epitome of a poor diner. We were starving, and it was late, so we stopped in. We ended up spending something like $45 for a caesar salad, hamburger, fries and two cokes. All of these items were barely edible. The caeser was something like $18, it was enormous and disgusting. The dressing was warm and smelled vaguely of vomit, or at least heightened the desire to do so. The fries, a seemingly impossible dish to ruin, were not good. They were cold in spots, warm in others, burnt in yet other spots. I really can't recommend avoiding this place enough.

Although the portions are huge, it is too expensive. Ben Ash also charges a $3 sharing fee. There are other delis where you can get a better value.

I guess when you're hungry and tired you'll pay anything, however, no one can be that hungry to pay $15 for a BLT. It was supposed to be 1 pound of meat, instead I got 4 small pieces of burnt bacon and 3/4 pound of lettuce in the sandwhich. The close slaw tasted like it had been sitting out on the counter all day. The location was good, however, the service was half-ass and the food tasted like full ass. Go down the street to Star Diner - it's worth the extra block you have to walk.

Huge portions, delicious cheesecake, but prices are not necessarily good value for money and some tables are too small.

Just gor back from our first trip to NYC. We arrived late and our hotel was right across the street from the Ben Ash Deli so we went in. The food and cheese cake were great and our waiter, Steve, was wonderful. We ate there several more times and the food and service were excellent. To boot, several big name Broadway, TV, and films stars were there while we were. Yes, the prices are a bit high, but not much more than anywhere else we ate.

The prices are high but the protions are HUGE. The quality was great. 1lb sandwiches big enough to feed 2 or more if you want to share. The cheesecake was fabulous, best I've ever had. We had an excellent watier, Steve, he made our experience wonderful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
