My wife and I had a great 4 day break to NYC, staying at The Wellington, just across the street from Ben Ash, where we ventured for an evening meal. Oh dear! The service was mediocre, to say the least. Undeterred (and my feeling about the place began to unfold), we ordered a Greek salad, with chicken for myself and the same for my wife but with prawns rather than chicken. What's this on my plate? The salad (lettuce in abundance, tomato, feta cheese, olives and pieces of chicken) was served on a plate completely shredded. Yes, shredded, as if put through a paper shredder. Unappetising at first glance and tasteless on first tasting. My wife's prawns were mashed up and served on the top of her shredded mush, with an ice cream scoop. Three scoops! No evidence of a prawn and not even in the taste. Everything was cold, to the point of over-refridgerated. Disappointing food and at $100 for the meal (including two small beers and a glass of house red), it was an expensive mistake. Moreover, the manager couldn't give a toss.

There are better places in the neighborhood
I went in and ordered a Ketel One and tonic. They brought me a yellowish drink. I tasted it--tasted like tonic but no carbonation whatsoever. They took it back and I had something else. I ordered pierogies. They came (4 pieces for $22) heaped with thick chopped barely cooked red onions rater than nicely sliced and browned onions you'd see anywhere else. The pierogies were utterly tasless. So I ordered a side of "sauteed mushrooms". What I got was a bowl of canned mushrooms in ome kid of gravy. Each time I needed the waiter, I had to flag him down at length.

Not good
I've lived in the neighborhood for four years and for some reason decided to try this place for breakfast. I can comfortably say this is the worst place in midtown.

Avoid
We had been travelling for 3 weeks and on our last evening in NYC we chose it just because it was close to the hotel. Never ever again. Poor food and super expensive.

After have been looking after a restaurant we found Ben Ash. We waited for one hour and had to bring the attention to the service people to get refills and the prices were very expensive. We will never come again and will not recommend the place.

Poor Choice
A hotdog for $15.00. Yikes! The pancakes were tough to cut. The bacon was extremely thick and hard to eat. The prices are probably fair for the area, but eat some where else.

My son wanted to go to Carnegie Deli, but was crowded so we opted for Benash Deli instead. What a mistake. There were 8 of us in the party. Food came out at 4 different times. Sandwich was okay. Soup would have been better if they opened a can of Campbells.Dinners were not right, and 1 came out burned to a crisp.
