    Pretty Good!

I went to this restaurant for the 1st time in May and I was pleasantly surprised. I ordered off the prix fixe menu which was a great deal. The calamari was bland but my entree was great. My date's meal was good too and the sorbet I ordered for desert was good. The service was a little slow but I would probably return here.

    watered down drinks

I have been going there for years. Lately it seem to have slipped. Ordered a drink and received something that resembled a glass of water with ice. I'm very upset because we used to have fun going there. New management leaves something to be desired. Won't go back again they lost us with their rude attitude.

when all you can do is laugh...

Not sure where these other reviews were coming from, but we went one Saturday night and took advantage of the Prix Fix menu. The calamari was bland, and the Bruschetta was basically sliced tomatoes on soggy bread. My boyfriend said he was pretty sure there was something wrong with his veal, and my main dish was not memorable. The service was slow and inconsistent. When we ordered dessert I asked if I should get the apricot gelato, and the waiter said it was bland and told me to get the mango. Well...the mango tasted not far from baby food. By the end of the meal all I could do was laugh. Don't waste your time.

    Best value, great food

The $19 prix fixe is an incredible value. Had the pasta with eggplant and ricotta--a delicious dish. Salad and soups were also very great, as were the gelato flavors. Decor is authentic with an antipasto bar for effect. Would recommend and will definitely be going back.

    Grateful Diner

My husband and I had dinner at Bella Luna recently. We were impressed with the staff and the food, not to mention the atmosphere, and vowed to come back every time we are in NY and to tell all of our friends. What happened next solidified our first impressions. I dropped my purse and unbeknownst to me my wallet dropped out it contained my driver's license, credit card and cash. I did not discover the loss until the next day when I tried to go thru security for my flight home. Long story short is that Bella Luna had my wallet and fed exed it to me (I received within 2 business days) at their expense. It doesn't get any better then that! Good food, attentive and gracious staff and a wonderful atmosphere plus integrety.

    What a splendid experience!

I have recently moved to New York, Upper West Side and since day one, have been trying out as many restaurants as i can in the neighborhood. Yesterday me and my friends tried Bella Luna for the first time and had a wonderful experience. First of all the host was very polite and friendly, after we were seated, the service was very attentive and helpful with recommendations. The food was delicious. I had Rigatoni alla Norma, which is rigatoni with eggplant base sauce and ricotta cheese, the sauce was great. For dessert we had homemade tiramisu, it also was delicious. The only thing that partially bothered us was that it was a bit crowded. But i guess that explains how they have been able to be around for so long, which i found out from my waiter. I recommend it to everyone!

make it at home for less!

My husband and I try a new restaurant in the neighborhood at least once a month. We like to support our "local" businesses, and figure we should try something outside of our regular spots to spread the wealth around. We decided to try Bella Luna because of it's friendly atmosphere and outside seating. The restaurant itself is lovely and clean, and the staff are courteous and accommodating. The food, unfortunately, is nothing to write home about. In fact, you could probably make their simple dishes at home for half the price and twice the flavor. We tried the polenta as an appetizer it was so salty we had to return it. We also had the Insalata di Sicilia, which was actually good: the dressing was light, tasty and there was a generous portion of shredded parm. The pasta was fine, but wasn't anything we couldn't have made at home. During these times when New Yorkers are watching every entertainment penny we spend, it's imperative that restaurants step up to the plate and offer more than excellent service for your hard earned dollar.
