    An excellent place to eat

We went to Becco for the first time with friends who recommended it to us. The wait staff was attentive, the food was very good. We paid quite a bit for dinner and dessert and coffee, but it was well worth it. I'd recommend this restaurant to anyone who loves to eat well made food. The swiss chard ravioli was out of this world and the other two pastas in the trio were excellent.

Loved it the first time....but not the second or third

I thouroughly enjoyed my night out with friends at Beccos last year but was very disappointed thereafter. The staff is so agressive about turning over tables that it's difficult to enjoy your conversation or your meal. Our waiter asked us 3 times within about 6-7 minutes if we were ready to order. About 15 minutes into our main course, the wait staff hovered around continually asking to take dishes, etc away. We were clearly not finished with our meal and it made us very uncomfortable. Between the the constant interuptions and the noise level, I'm not sure our small group was able to hold a complete conversation. I decided to give Becco's a third chance thinking it might have been an anomoly but we had a similar experience with an added annoyance of having a table for two up against another table for two. There was literally 4 inches between our tables. Are you kidding? Are times really that tough?

    Favorite NYC restaurant

I go to NYC many times a year. Although there are lots of restaurants I enjoy I never get tired of Becco. Whenever I bring someone to NYC for their first visit Becco is the restaurant of choice and no one has ever been displeased. The service and food have always been excellent. I don't eat red meat and when having the pasta trio of the day they always make a substitute pasta dish without meat for those of us who don't eat red meat. Pleasant, fun wait staff even on the busiest of days. Never disappointed. They have a wonderful wine list including a good choice of bottles for $25. I look forward to my next visit. I highly recommend Becco but be sure to make a reservation!

    Touristy

The only people who will like this restaurant are tourists. The food is just ok (I may be able to make better pasta at home) but the service is miserable. If the manager or owner ever sees this please retrain your staff

    Even the carrots were delicious!

From the street, it looks like any other restaurant, but once you step inside, the extremely pleasant staff leads you to the back, and you find yourself in a large room with a low ceiling and two enormous skylights. Open and sunlit, the atmosphere could not have been more authentic. Then there's the food. I ordered an appetizer special which was a baked, soft cheese--not mozzarella, but something similar--served over thick, toasted bread and set upon a bed of the BEST broccoli rabe I have ever had. This was followed by the antipasto, which included an octopus salad, skate fish, peas and ricotta on the side. The ricotta, drizzled with honey, was light as air and just a bit sweet. It could have been served for dessert. The three pastas we ordered next were semolina gnocci in cream sauce, orecchiette with bacon and onions and finally, “ordinary” spaghetti with tomato/basil sauce. Each one was better than the next. I am not one to be impressed by spaghetti with tomato sauce and basil, but even this mainstay was a tasty treat. In short (too late!), each bite was a delight, a separate, masterful flavor. I would dine here again and again and again.

    Awesome. Simply awesome.

It's all about food here. The atmosphere and room is very cramped and limited space wise, however once that food enters your mouth, you are taken elsewhere to a place of pure happiness and appreciation... Oh yes.... Its that amaaaaaaazing

    Mediocre

Went to Becco last night and was pretty disappointed. The food is mediocre, the place was loud (and busy, good for them), and the service was unimpressive (pleasant enough but not easy to understand and had to ask for refills of water, pasta, etc.). Would not recommend to anyone.
