    Excellent Italian!

This is my default Italian restaurant. Whenever I have a friend who's new in town and wants to try Italian food in NYC, this is where I take them. The Ossobucco is to die for, and their all you can eat prix-fixe pasta dishes are usually top notch (you can choose from three dishes for $22 I believe). Sit upstairs if you want some refuge from the racious bar scene downstairs.

    It's All About Timing

I think the key to enjoying Becco is timing your visit. Those who are catching a show have fewer choices, but if you're just out to enjoy the restaurant, consider dining around 8 p.m. That's what a group of us did for an office party, and we got excellent service. We weren't crowded or rushed, and I think that was in large part because we dined on a weeknight, after the theater crowd, and early in the week (Monday or Tuesday, if memory serves me correctly). The restaurant wasn't empty, but it wasn't packed either. Service was attentive without being attentive or pushy. The pastas were excellent, particularly the ravioli in butter sauce, and the osso bucco was divine--tender, falling off the bone, and more than enough for one person. We'll have to try desserts another day. And by the way, $25 for a bottle of wine is a bargain in New York City. People from out of town may not realize this, but it is indeed true.

    Great food; excellent value

Our party of 4 dined here last night after a Sunday matinee. We were seated promptly, even without a reservation. The restaurant was crowded, but even with every table full, the noise level was tolerable. Our servers were helpful in choosing the wine (an excellent value at $25) and everyone was friendly and gracious (often an uncommon Manhattan dining experience). We all ordered the unlimited pastas, which were whole wheat pasta in a Bolognese sauce, rigatoni in a fresh tomato and basil sauce, and spinach ravioli. Quite a nice selection for $22. We were asked 3 or 4 times if we wanted more servings, which is not something some posters have reported. The manager also stopped by to ask if everything was OK. It was absolutely a delicious experience on a frigid NY night. Regardless of who the chef is, Becco showed us the quality and attention to detail that I've seen on Lidia's shows but never had the chance to experience. Now if only I could afford Il Posto!!

    Good food

We had reservations and were promptly seated, but we were really squeezed in tight and it was borderline uncomfortable. The first course came quickly and the second course took forever. Diners who came after us were finished before us. The food was very good but not outstanding. After we got our check, we couldn't get the waiter to pick it up after waiting over 15 minutes. I had to take it with me to the register to pay so we could make our show. I probably won't return.

    Too pricy for ordinary pasta

You should never have their unlimited pasta. Plus! eventhough we made reservation, the sitting was uncomfortable we constantly had to move our chairs because waiters could not get through unplesant experience. !!

    Pasta for $30?????

I was extremely disappointed with my experience at Becco's. Overrated! The food was mediocre and definately not worth the $30 per plate. Unlimited pasta they say?......we never got our second plate full! The place was also uncomfortable in its seating. Six of us were squeezed into a table for four! We were better off at a diner booth!

    Fabulous Experience

We had our office Christmas party here. We were seated promptly at the time of our reservation. We chose to have unlimited pasta with our meals and diferrent wines with each course. The Wine Steward chose the wines for us and he made perfect choices each time. The food was exceptional and the waitstaff always made sure everthing was fine and if we needed anything. We have dined here many times and highly recommend dinning here. Because it is so close the theatres I would highly recommend reservations. The Restaurant does get very crowded durring peak hours.
