    Mostly negative

A night out with friends for cocktails and dinner ... we decided to give Becco a try ... what a mistake! A 30 minute wait time turned into almost an hour ... there is no place to stand so we were herded into the bar area where we stood on top of customers who were trying to enjoy their meal ... once seated the wiatress was excellenet and very friendly ... the food was delicious ... but I would think twice about going back ... the noise level is deafening, the seating is horrible and the general overall feeling of this tourist trap is that they are looking to make a fast buck on Lydia's fleeting fame ... if you are a NY'er avoid this restaurant!

    Not worth the wait

My boyfriend and I were looking for a nice Italian restaurant to eat dinner at on Sunday Night. I read some reviews about Becco and it was close to our Hotel so we decided to give it a try. We put our name in for a 45 min. wait. We showed back up in 30 minutes after having a drink down the street. I went back in and they told me they had already called our name and we would have to wait another 15. We were starving and didn't want to have to go anywhere else so we waited. we sat outside which was nice. The service was not good. they kept sending over random people to bring us bread, water , wine, and none of them could take our order. in total there were probably 6 different people that came over throughout the night. Our server left half way through the dinner and they sent over ANOTHER person to wait on us. We ordered the chef's special pasta dinner which changed right before we ordered. It came with either a Caesar sald or an Antipasti (which was strange and consisted of random veggies) The pasta sounded good so we both ordered that. they brought over 2 of the 3 pastas. The third was the mushroom ravioli which we were both looking forward to. A random person brought that over once, only gave us 2 each, and then another came and asked us if we wanted more, and we said yes, but they never came back....EVER. we waited 15 minutes and then they just brought us the check. The pasta dinners were each $25, and we probably got about $5 worth of pasta each. it was pretty bad. The only thing that was nice was they have a huge menu of $25 wines, and the one our server recommended was pretty good for the value. There are thousands of restaurants in New York and this is one we will never be going back to.

    Deliciuos Dining in NY!!

What a wonderful experience we had dining at Becco! The pasta was supurb, service was prompt and pleasant and we also enjoyed wine from the homeland of Italy. What a great spot to find before our Theatre evening.

avoid becco - overpriced tourist trap

We figured a restaurant with Lydia's name attached to it would be a great place for good italian food. We were wrong. The pasta was overcooked and ladled out at the table. The ravioli must have come right out of the pot because the waiter slopped water onto the plate as well. The recommended calamari appetizer was something you would expect from the Olive Garden. They didn't bother melting the cheese on the veal parmesan. The place was stiflingly hot, the decor was depressing, the rooms were loud, the service was slow, the meal was expensive. The place is basically an overpriced tourist trap.

    Fabulous!

Went to dinner tonight with my husband and I have to say it was one of the best meals we have had. The food not only was excellent, but the service was just as great Have to also add that "Jeremy" and "Tom" were 2 of the most pleasant people we have ever dealt with. Keep up the great work. Can't wait to come back!!

    Best bet for pre-theater dinner

This is a great place to go for pre-theater dinner. Absolutely delicious food. I definitely recommend the unlimited pasta entree. If you're wise you'll fill your plate even after you're full and take home the leftovers.

    So Romantic

I'll preface by saying my review may be tainted, Becco will forever have a place in my heart b/c it is where my bf first said "I love you," but that aside I think I can still give it an unbiased review. First and foremost for me is the wine, they have a small menu of about 60 wines for $25, and many are great values. We had the 2006 Barbera d'Asti, Tre Vigne and it was wonderful. The bread and foccacia they give with their red pepper and olive oil is yummy. We split the mussels with garlic and bread for an appetizer, delicious. Thank God we both ate it or there'd be no kissing later that night though. I also recommend they 3 pastas you can get with you meal. My bf got that and we split them, more than enough. The pastas are handmade and change daily, but our spinach ravioli, garlic claim linguine and farfalle with tomato and basil were all wonderful. For entrees I had the zuppa di pesce which was good, though I wasn't in love with the lobster broth. My bf had the salmon over a puree of fava beans which was really good. I can't comment on dessert but I'm sure it's delicious as well. The place is very romantic, we sat outside, and the food was delicious, highly highly recommended.
