Favorite restaurant in Manhattan!
Born and raised in NYC, so I am definitely a huge food snob. Yes, this place is rather on the expensive side but is totally worth it as the place itself is beautiful and the food is delicious! They pop complimentary rose champagne in the ladies bathroom. Try the salmon- my favorite thing on the menu. Loved it!

Underwhelmed
I was excited to try Beauty and Essex, but it wasn't worth the wait.I've been to Stanton Social a couple of times and have really liked the food. So naturally I expected to like it at B&E as well. The space it very cool, Design is a high 10! The staff was nothing but friendly from entering to service. So where does it go "blech"? The food! Nothing was great, it was all OK. Not bad, but not one thing that I thought, wow, that was really tasty let's get another! I love going out for tapas and small plates, But I also like to feel satiated after, and I wasn't. It's easy for the bill to add up, and I expected that in this type of restaurant. But I at least want to feel like I've had a really good meal after, and I didn't! too bad..B&E can get by on it's good looks, but for how long?

Not good
Anyone who said the food is 'amazing' is wrong. Chicken dumplings and the Kobe beef carpaccio were alright but very small, and the braised short rib tamales and chicken meatballs sucked. Desserts were good but not worth the 200 bucks it cost me for 4 appetizers 2 desserts and 6 margaritas. It's a nice looking place and lots of hot girls work there so if you're looking to grab a 20 dollar drink you should check it out.

Plain old not good
This place, while quite the scene, should not be known for their food. The food was bland and so skimpy. I understand it is small plater, but if you are ordering a meat dish, I would expect the majority of the dish to be meat. We complained to the manager and he didn't even apologize. There are about 200 better places to go in the city than this place.

Beauty ON Essex!!
This restaurant is suberb in every way ... food, atmosphere, service - IT'S AMAZING!. As a native of Manhattan (born on the lower east side) I have been to many great new restaurants -- Beauty & Essex is the best I have been to in a long, long time! And ... when I thought things couldn't get any better, my evening only improved when I was delighted to meet and talk to the chef/owner, Chris Santos, also of Chopped fame. He was the most gracious host and seemed like a genuinely nice person. Really ... do not miss this restaurant ... you will not and cannot be disappointed!!!

Amazing!
Such a cool spot - and totally worth the wait!! The food was amazing, and our server was very accomdating, and walked us thru the menu. Not a place to take parents since they are basically blasted music, but it was SO much fun!! I can't wait to go back!

Just as good if not better than Stanton Social
Same chef owner, same style cuisine. But better! More variety and a bigger space make this place worth checking out. It still has the new restaurant buzz so we got an early reservation and our food and service definitely benefited! Highly recommend the bone marrow and the creamy polenta side dish. Bill will kill a little if you drink, bottom line, go early and enjoy! Will go back.
