Cold... Slow... Huh?
Ate at Beast recently. Waitress did apologize for 15 minutes wait without being acknowledged. Food came cold, with exception of duck which was good. Dining room was extremely warm, thankfully, one refill of water came at the most opportune moment. Would be wary about eating at again, but would go to drink at bar.

be prepared to wait
So, the food is very good, but definitely not worth the 45 minute plus wait I've had to endure on each visit. The first time it was for a late lunch at 3pm, and we ordered in the empty restaurant quickly, but had to wait for about 45 minutes for our food while the chef seemed to be going in slow motion. I chalked it up to the strange time, but when I returned for brunch one Sunday we told our waitress we were in a hurry and she only managed to bring us our food after 40 minutes. Shaving off five minutes, gee, how nice. Just don't go here hungry.

Almost Perfect but ultimately Beastly
We absolutely love the ambiance, menu, and glorious creations and flavors, but a few big no nos. Service is not up to par. Hipster service is only cool when its super fast and when you don't have any other choices. Also, don't charge blue ribbon prices on oysters and give us a smaller portion. Finally $10 per a 4 ounce apple martini poured in a scratch up classic tumber? Management should keep an eye out on these details, to make sure this gem continues to shine.

Good food but would like more selection
My husband and I enjoyed the food here. We would have liked to have more a selection of tapas to choose from. We felt the menu was limited. The roasted vegetable quesadilla was delicious. The service was standard. The area we sat in was a very tight fit, although it was a very fun and lively atmosphere. We want to try some other tapas places before coming back here.

Mediocre service but a great time nonetheless
I absolutely love eating at Beast. As someone who likes trying a taste of half the items on the menu, Beast suits me perfectly. My boyfriend and I can usually share about 5-6 items between the two of us. The humus and the fried manchengo cheese bites are awesome! One a month they have a special wine night where you can choose a flight of three glasses of any by-the-glass wine for $15. This is perfect for mixing and matching with the variety of small-dishes. The smores are an excellent dessert choice- something you don't get a chance to eat too often anymore. Oh the waiters usually mess up your order. But they can't overshadow the fun menu items and it's very cheap. Go!

Return to what works
Love Beast and visited this past weekend especially for the chorizo in wine sauce. When it arrived, it was tasteless and was cooked in garlic and onions. The little taste it had was not good. Definately not worth the $10. I could have bought chorizo from the corner store with better flavor. Please return back to the original recipe!

Whoa. Our new favorite spot...
Once through the grandiose entrance, the low-key, dimly lit setting felt nice and cozy. I'm always a little sad when I see a place that purports to be a tapas place, offering no plate choices under $9... sometimes that classification bums me out, giving restaurants a chance to make even more on smaller portions... BUT, by the second round of plates, the mushroom, cherry tomato and flatbread salad and the seared scallops in butternut squash and sage puree, I was convinced that this place was for real. The meal's climax was that night's special 'open ravioli' - with butternut squash, asparagus, and mushroom - de-elightful. Dessert was the night's special apricot crumble served with chilled lemon marscapone and the warm toffee pudding (like bread pudding) with caramel sauce left us speechlessly moaning. The service has a nice, leave-you-to enjoy-yourself vibe, with servers neither too present or absent. Unfortunately when we were there the quiet street-side outside seating section was closed, and we had to endure the noisy traffic on Vanderbilt. But my joy and suprise at having found such a treasure in Prospect Heights made me forget about it.
