    basic comfort food

They haven't reinvented themselves after the move, but they have managed to re-establish their basic early bird $5 value. I drop-in for late lunch or early dinner, get the $5 tender juicy chicken, basic baked potato and pretty good corn bread. It's weird that a large Diet Coke costs half the price of the meal but for $10, I'm outta' there, including tip. Service has been respectful and pretty attentive. Cheap, predictable and satisfying. I know where to go when I want want they got.

an open letter to the owner

WE WANT OUR BBQ BACK! BBQ used to be a long time fixture in the area when it was located on the corner of University and 8th Street. It served honest, inexpensive BBQ-type food and was always full. It was much better and nicer than Dallas BBQ. Everyone went there now and then, from those for whom a $5. chicken platter was a stretch, to those who also went to Le Cirque. About a year ago it lost its lease and months later re-emerged a few blocks away. The new restaurant is like the old in name only. On our first visit the chicken was so overdone we could not eat it and the baked potato was tiny. The next time the ribs were tasteless, except for the sauce, and the potato even tiner. We asked for Sam Adams and were served Bud, and when it was taken back the Sam Adams that arrived was either stale or watered down. We also ordered hamburgers twice for delivery and on both times they were inedible. Friends and neighbors tell us of like experiences. Everytime we've seen it the place has been close to empty. The owner is aware the restaurant is not doing well, but blames the location. When will they wake up to the fact that the problem is the food and the lack of attention to restaurant basics? We hope they will wake up an give us our old BBQ back.

    Lackluster

All and all not a very pleasant experience from the very beginning. They brought us to the back part of the restuarant which had two somewhat large rooms. The restaurant was almost empty-- Despite this they decided to seat about 20 extremely loud college kids right on top of us- kind of a headscratcher. We ordered two entrees in two sides. The waitress forgot to bring one of the sides. In addition, she was MIA most of the evening. Now the good- The food was excessively greasy - even for barbeque. The ribs were ok but a few napkins would have been helpful. On the positive side, the prices were extremeley reasonable and the quantity of food was impressive. Plenty of other good BBQ places in the city to eat at..not coming back.....
