    service is too disappointing

Tried going here because most of the review was good but to tell you honestly I was not happy. The food was not as good as it was reviewed. It was not even worth the price. The service was very poor. The waiters are gonna entertain you when you come in but after giving your food they're out of sight. They're even so slow. Seems like there's only 2 person working there. I am not pleased. I hope the owner will do something about this problem. Seems like she doesn't care at all. Sad because there are only few filipino restaurant in the area.

    owner

Food is ok but not that great anymore. Its not even worth the price. The original portions of the food are even lesser than it used to be before they increase their price. Waiters are friendly as usual but forget about the owner. She doesn't know how to mingle with her customers. We've been coming back here to support our friends which are the employees though we know that the owner doesn't even appreciate it. The place was not as clean as it used to be. And the service is not that good anymore though we understand because they are only 3 employees working there. I just hope that the owner will notice someday how supportive her customers are even if it is not worth the price and taste of food anymore. She should be thankful for her employees because they're so friendly reason why her customers still go back once a week or two. Good uck to this business and hoping to see some changes.

    too greasy

Will never order from here again. The only thing that was good was the chicken adobo.. yet very greasy...! The fish was disgusting.. the veg. in coco curry had a very sour taste.. the beef was ok.... the egg rolls were ooozing with greasy inside and out..took long to get our food...

    satisfied and happy

My friends recommend me bayan. I didn't know that there's a filipino restaurant located in midtown manhattan. I first went here for lunch on the weekends and I was amazed on how crowded it was when I went there. They have this special lunch combo which they called "turo-turo" in our country. You can choose 2 variety of dish plus a rice on the side. I was very satisfied to what I ordered so I went back for dinner woth some friends. After 2pm on the weekdays...you have to order from their menu. We ordered chix-pork adobo, ginisang ampalaya (as per request because it was not on their menu), sinigang na baka and their very own lumpiang shanghai. I would say I was much satisfied. They cooked it so good!!! Feels like home again. The waiters are so friendly and they greet with a big smile as if they've known you for so long. The place is nice and cute and I heard from one of the employees that they also have a backyard. Would love to go back again most especially on the weekends because I also wanna try their traditional breakfast!...the silogs!!! I would love to recommend this place.

    Very satisfied

I actually wanna respond to the person who just made a review on how disappointed you are. You mentioned about their breakfast menu...and yes it is available from 10am until 2pm. As for my experienced...the waiters/waitresses of bayan are very considerate. We actually went here last weekend and we wanted to have some of the traditional breakfast. It was 1:30pm when i called first to ask if we can reserve it since we know we will be late for like 25-45 mins. The manager was so considerate to accomodate our request and we arrived that day at around 2:20 pm and we got our favorite traditional breakfast. As for my opinion (as we all have our OWN opinions)...Bayan for me is still great. It may be pricey for the other people but i get what i want...the reason why i always come back to visit them. There are times that the order that i want is not available or they are out of stock already because there's only one explanation to that...people love to order it!...others may think that they just don't wanna cook it?...but hey i don't think they will do that! So to sum up all of this...I'M A VERY SATISFIED customer of Bayan Cafe and I'm happy that in Midtown we can still find a place like home!

    disappointing

The other reviews i have read regarding this restaurant are in my opinion of course, absolutely false. Today, I actually went to this restaurant based on the reviews I have read (ny mag, insider pages, etc..), they stated it being one of the better restaurants out of the three, they could not have been more wrong. I orderdaing na Bangus, on the menu it says half or whole, they had neither so the waiter who may also have been one of the cooks, offered the baby bangus when asked how much, he gave me an unsure answer, saying he would ask the chef ? anyhow I then tried to order the pork bbq sticks, at first he said they didn't have any but when he clearly saw that I was starting to get upset that they didn't have anything I originally wanted, he said " oh wait nevermind we do have it ", it seemed as if he was probably gonna make a quick substitution on the fly, by this point I was getting frustrated because it seemed everything i tried ordering was not available. (sidenote: i actually called first to ask if they had these items and they said yes) Also the weekend specials for the silog dishes tapsilog, tosilog etc.. are available till 2pm, I arrived there around 2:30 pm and saw that one of the tables had just ordered this so i expected the same treatment in getting it as well, no such luck there ) All in all I ended up taking the daing and the lumpia i ordered for take out instead of staying in, and took a cab 20 blocks down to the more reliable grill 21 (another flip food joint) and there I had my filipino food fix. I really hope Bayan Cafe works on there customer service, making sure they can provide customer the items on there menu. This definitly saddens me as we don't have many filipino restaurants here in manhattan, and I would love to go to all and say that all are good, because elvies is still great, grill 21 is still good, but this place just sucks. I guess 2/3 aint bad. Looks like i'll be going to Queens more often to get my fix, what a shame.
