Inconsistent, but generally good
For the most part, the food is very good, although it has been inconsistent recently. The vindaloo, usually thick and spicy has arrived watery and bland on several occasions. The naan and appetizers are always good.

Best Indian Lunch in Midtown
For lunch this is the best indian meal you can find in the area. The food is resonably priced (half off for lunch) and the service is fantastic. I suggest the Chicken Tikki Masala.

Takes all day
I had been here for a group lunch, and the food was decent and reasonably priced. Today, I went for a 'lunch box' to go, which is basically a tupperware filled with food from the already prepared buffet. I have never experienced such slow service. I should've been in and out of there in 5 minutes considering all the food is already laid out. Instead, I waited 5-10 minutes just for them to get a tupperware container. Then, I waited while they 'prepared' the condiments to go. What should've been a quick convenient take out was a long, painful, experience. Also, the rogan josh lamb has way too much vinegar this time.

For the price, best Indian in the hood
While there are certainly other more fantastic Indian restaurants in midtown east, Bawarchi's delivers high value - arguably the best tasting Indian in the immediate neighborhood, and at a fair price. On a saturday night, the restaurant was very busy, but had very attentive service with minimal wait - just time to make a movie at 62nd at 1st.
