    absolutely incredible

Wonderful meal, great service, nice wine list. Plain and simple this was one of the best meals I have ever had. The waitstaff was quick to fill any half empty glass and more than happy to answer any questions. Not as pricey as I had expected it to be which made it even better. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a nice meal with a relaxing atmosphere.

    Excellent all around

I read other reviews and decided to take a party of 12 out to dinner here. They set a special table for us and treated us extremely well the entire meal. The service was outstanding, the food selection and preparation was excellent, wine list reasonably priced, and the overall experience for everyone in the party was excellent. Everyone said they would return to the restaurant next time they are in NYC. We shared appetizers that were all interesting and the entrees everyone enjoyed. I had the duck and it was well prepared medium rare just as ordered very tender not fatty. The rack of lamb was ok but the striped bass was nicely prepared not dry as was the ahi special of the night cooked rare. the sea food pasta dishes were tasty too. Desserts ranged from a plate of italian cookies to traditional tiramis (my daughter enjoyed the crepes with dark chocolate and fresh fruit). For midtown the cost was reasonable and you get your monies worth and they appreciate your business.

    Wonderful experience

Very nice menu selection, great specials and very reasonable prices. Everything we ordered was excellent, even the salads were a cut above the rest. The food arrived quickly and delivered by a friendly, attentive, polite staff. My wife and I are sticklers for good service and Basso 56 was a winner. You didn't have to search for your waiter, there was always someone close by more than willing to help with any questions or needs you might have. Decor was neat and clean with pleanty of room to spread out which is a rare find in a NYC restaurant. Overall a great experience sure to please the most discerning diner.

    Great food and great service!

I took my friend out for lunch and the food was sp delicious. You can't beat the prix fixe especially for the quality! I had the homemade spaghetti with lamb and my friend had the pasta with eggplant. Both exquisite! For an appetizer the mussels were a pretty large portion. Topped it off with a complimentary coffee and the lunch was superb. Will def go back!

    Good neighborhood place.

Most reviews note excellent service and with good reason. One rarely sees the staff waiting until everyone at the table is done eating before clearing the course. This is how it is supposed to be done but rarely is. Complimentary olives and bruschetta to start were a nice touch. Appetizers were excellent but some of the pastas were uneven. Fettuccini with porcini mushrooms and orecchiette with sausage were delicious but pappardelle with shrimp was too bland. The veal chop, however, was done just right and was delicious. Unfortunately, all of the hot dishes were served on barely warm plates, which made the food cool too quickly. Using nicely hot (not burning) plates would make a big difference. Overall, we had pleasant evening and much enjoyed this well prepared, professionally served meal. The prices were reasonable for the quality of the dishes and the midtown location. Definitely a keeper.

    Great Find

Found this restaurant on the internet...was a little nervous. Got held up due to traffic and weather and was late for the reservation (which was made the same day). My husband showed up on time and had to wait 45 minutes for the rest of us to arrive. They seated him immediately and made him comfortable . The service was excellent , all four of our dishes were wonderful and the atmosphere was very calming after a hectic drive. We will definitely be back.

    Great Service

My daughter recommended this place.... not in best location but convenient to midtown... the Service was exceptional, the price was very reasonable - good un-inflated wine list. The mozzarella appetizer was one of the best ever had. The meal was good -service GREAT.
