I'm from Melbourne, Australia. The place to get the best pasta or risotto outside of Milan. My family is from the abruzzo region in Italy the same as the owner/chef here. I special ordered han off the menu classic abruzzese dish of spaghetti aglio e olio with some peperoncini. The wait staff was very accommodating and the pasta nice and al dente. It reminded me of home and Italy at once. Love eating the bread and olive oil and pasta and drinking the wine. Great experience. Best meal in new York I had. That and sparks steak house. After my cousin and I polished off a bottle or so of wine and some coffee we staggered out half drunk, hailed a cab and were whisked back to 440 west 41st street by the fastest cab driver the world has seen. Great night

My husband I were looking for a place that would allow us to talk and enjoy our dinner as we were celebrating our 25th! Although it was busy (every table taken and few people waiting), it was not loud and we had a well prepared meal. My husband thought the lamb was excellent and I loved the special Mahi! We were not rushed and our service was just right with our waiter being attentive but not overbearing...had a sense of humor also. We would definitely return.

We went for dinner the other night, and the service started out great until there was a problem with our order. And then it was downhill from there. I would not recommend this restaurant for a special occasion. They are inconsistent. One out of every four times, there is a problem with the food. It's also a overpriced.

Basso is good for a quick, casual meal. The food preparation is not as consistent as many other restaurants. It's also a bit pricey for what it is, but the place is clean. It's convenient to the theatre, so there are a lot of out of town diners.

Just finished a business dinner at Basso. Had all specials, which included a delicious outer-crispy crabcake, maybe the biggest I've ever had. That followed by Mahi-Mahi with garlic mashed and asparagus. Even the decaf coffee was great. Will be back!

Recently I attended this restaurant with my husband for a special occasion. When I first walked in, I noticed it was a bit smaller than I had imagined but the food and ambiance made up for it all. I had the ravoli del giorno while my husband had the duck with fig, both were amazing. We also shared a bottle of wine and white bean and shrimp appetizer. The bill was 90 which I felt was great for all the food and wine. Food and wine reminded me of memories from Italy. We were both stuffed! This was one of my top food experiences in nyc.

My wife and I and another couple went to Basso56 after the theater on Saturday night.Though we were early we were seated promptly by the staff who honored our request for a corner table. We had come to Basso56 strictly on the recommendations we had seen on Menupages.com.All I can say is that the recommendations were "spot" on.The food was excellent. The service was friendly and not rushed. We enjoyed the meal immensely. If you go try the mussels as an appetiser.
