Great food
I took my family here over the Christmas Holiday- the food was fantastic. I had the beef shoulder risotto- best meal I had in a long time... I recommend this restaurant....they even have a nice bar across the street...owned by the same owner.

One of our favorites in NYC
We returned in Oct. 2011, after having had an excellent meal here several years ago, & were not disappointed. Service was friendly & prompt. The surroundings were attractive & not overly noisy. And the food was excellent, & moderately priced. Complimentary bruscetta, & olives, were a pleasant surprise, to start. Our salads were generous, fresh, & delicious. My wife had a ravioli special, and I had the striped bass, which was outstanding. We look forward to returning.

Great find
After reading positive reviews from menu pages, my husband and I decided to try it with friends. We definitely were not disappointed. The bartender made a good martini and the white wine choices were first rate. The owner was very welcoming and made us feel comfortable during the meal. The chicken and fish dishes were excellently prepared and made to our specifications. The special dessert, a chocolate cake. was moist and light. I highly recommend this restaurant.

Best Italian in NYC
Patsy's is a great restaurant but Basso56 is better and less expensive. You know it has to be to start up next to an institution and beat it in price and quality. We are from Maine and travel quite a bit. We appreciate a great restaurant and tip from 5-20% as your tip should reflect your satisfaction. Basso56 is 20%+ and not just because our server was a knowledgeable and attentive waitress. She went out of her way to answer questions and find answers rather than bull her way through. The Sommelier really knew his stuff. Covering the full range of Italian wines. I could not name one ( out of 50 that he did not know more than I did about it. The Barbaresco Reserva was great with the oxtail spaghetti as well as the papardellle with boar ragu sauce was fabulous. The Creme brulee was perfect. The capresse salad had the best mozzarella I have had with much better texture, less rubber. and the goat cheese, arugala, pear salad was fabulous. Alex knew his Sambuca vs Anisette, ports and grappa's. The espresso was Italian!
