    Great Homemade Food

We were looking for a good neighborhood italian place and this place fit the bill. Great fresh, homemade pastas and I also had the veal masala which was delicious. Cute, cozy little restaurant and the service was pretty good. i'd definitely go back again.

    Favorite little Italian spot... A+

I've been coming to this place for years now... and it's the perfect little neighborhood mom and pop italian spot. I love that the chef used to be a waiter and worked his way into the kitchen. I love that whenever I go there they will custom make my favorite risotto dish - even if it's not on that days menu/specials. I love the olives on the tables. This is a fantastic spot. I wouldn't mind if you chose not to go there... more for me! (the wait is getting too long lately anyway). haha

    Great Food at Fantastic Prices

Go here every couple of weeks, always on the weekends during pretty much peak times. Never waited more than 10 minutes for a table, always had prompt service (including as indicated in reviews below complimentary wine while you are waiting and complimentary Amaretto to end the meal). The food is uniformly excellent, especially the gnocchi, veal marsala, eggplant parm and ziti with sweet sausage. Prices are great too, definitely one of my Italian stand-bys (even considering I live in the East Village).

Very nice and friendly Italian restaurant

I'd like to express my thanks to the great service, great food and very reasonable prices. I picked this restaurant after reading the reviviews and should say that all good reviews are 100 % correct. Yes it is a small, what you would call "Family' restaurant with not so fancy but very tasty, fresh, and decent size portions meals. We had a reseravation for 6:15 before the show at 8, but were late and did not call the restaurant to ask them to hold our table, so the table was given away, but the waiter told us to wait for 10 min because he saw that some people were ready to leave soon, he even took our orders before we were seated to make sure we get the food as soon as we get the table so we can make it for our show. That was very nice and thoughtfull. I doin't remember getting food so fast even in the fast food restaurant. Thanks again

    Great little restaurant

The restaurant is little but they take reservations, so that is not a problem. It is right in the heart of the Theater District. The food was excellent and the service was outstanding and friendly. They will accomodate your wishes if there is something you are looking for that is not on the menu. I would definitely not hesitate to go back.

    NYC Supper Club Review

Basilica is a fine Italian restaurant located on 9th Avenue between 46th and 47th Streets. It has a small awning in front and if you are not watching for it, you can easily pass it by. The interior is set up with tables on both sides of a main pathway; each table is butted up against a wall. It is not a large restaurant by New York standards but size in this case means very little. It is a bit dark inside so if one is hard of seeing, you may wish to have someone with you to look over the menu. We have eaten here twice now and rate it among the best. The first time, Tina ordered the Spaghetti Bolognese and I braved it and ordered the Veal Parmigiana. We both were surprised at the speed of delivery of our meals. Equally (and more importantly) surprising was how great the meals were. My veal was cooked to perfection; not chewy, and not dried out. It came with a side of pasta. White the veal was exceptional; the pasta was, well, pasta. Something was lacking in the sauce. So I tried putting a little parmagian cheese on it with very little difference.. Not the answer. After discussing it with Tina, we came to the conclusion that it needed Italian spices (Rosemary and Oregano immediately came to mind). But this was a side dish, not the main meal. Tina raved about here Spaghetti Bolognese and she polished most of it off, no problem. The second time around, we both had the Spaghetti Bolognese with exceptional results. A side of garlic bread was ordered and it was very tasty but we both got filled up!! I suggest a large bottle of Sparkling Water to accompany any meal. Gain, we were both too stuffed for desse3rt, but I did note the prices for dessert were a bit on the high side. The menu consists of traditional Italian dishes, appetizers such as Mozzarella Caprese and Mussels Fra Diavolo. There is also a Caesar Salad available. All in all, not an extensive menu, but definitely one that has everything you would need for a fine Italian dinner. The location is pretty good as well, subway friendly although you do have to walk a little. We will be going back in the future – many times.
