    Pleasant Surprise

I went in to Manhattan to visit a friend and wanted Indian food. We picked this bistro from the reviews on this page and were very happy we made this choice. The service was excellent and the waiters and owner made us feel welcome - as if we were old friends. The food was great and priced reasonably. The atmosphere of the restaurant was quiet and comfortable (good acoustics). A good meal in a relaxed atmosphere. I'll be back!!!

Best Indian this side of the French Riviera

My wife and I have been to this gem of a spot a few times and absolutely love it. It's our favorite Indian food restaurant in the city. The food is delicious, the waiters are very friendly and attentive, nice atmosphere and very reasonably priced. We give Basera our highest recommendation. p.s. the chicken tikki masala and the chicken vindaloo are the bomb

    Excellent

This is really good Indian. Fresh cuts of lean meat, wonderfully fluffy rice, delicate spices, cautious use of oils. Excellent service.. Part of a family run group - my friends wanted to try this place out after visiting Indigo. It does not disappoint. Highly recommend the lamb entrees and also the lamb naan.

Best Indian food in Hells Kitchen!

My husband and I have eaten at Basera more times than I can count. This is incredible Indian food (whether it's eat-in or take-out). The masalas are delicious, every dish we've tried is amazing, the complimentary papadam and chutneys are great. I can't say enough about this restaurant. In a neighborhood that boasts fantastic restaurants, Basera is top of my lists!

    Very good

Had dinner here on Saturday night, and was surprised it wasn't too crowded. I had read several reviews, mostly good, and really wanted to try it out. Overall, I was very pleased with the service and the food was good. We ordered a typical dinner, started off with veggie samosas and shared the chicken tikka masala. They were both good, but I have had better. I also ordered a mango lassi, which was probably better than most others I've had. The homemade pistachio and almond ice cream probably was what was the biggest disappointment. I would come back.

    perfect neighborhood spot--don't miss!

My husband and I eat here at least once a week....we just did two evenings in a row because the chicken tikki masala and saag mushrooms are just sooo good, we needed our fix. Everything we've had here has been fantastic. So fresh, so delicious. The owner and the whole staff are very earnest and polite. My only qualm is that I wish it were packed every night. When we go and there are only a few tables filled we get bummed out because we want this place to be as bustling and busy as the food certainly warrants. If you live, work or play in Hell's Kitchen, you should make it a point to stop by and support this great restaurant. I would love to do a mini decor makeover---it's not bad but I think with a few minor tweaks this place can and should be hopping. We'll continue to be regulars and will be glad when we can say "we were well ahead of the curve" and were supporters before it become the go-to Indian joint in the hood. The naan is also terrific, when we decide to indulge in a carb-fest. But please, don't leave without trying the Saag with Mushrooms. You'll feel like you just injected an infusion of yummy veggies...it's so good!

    excellent food and service!

the food was absolutely wonderful. the chicken pakoras and veggie samosas were delicious. the papadum and naan were very tasty, and the chutneys were the best! i loved the chicken tikka masala and rogan josh, and everything tasted so very fresh. and they have a super attentive waitstaff who seem to love what they're doing. i can't wait to bring more family and friends here, this place is great!!
