fearlessly romantic
So today was not your typical friday in New York. It's been snowing for last 48 hrs and I dreaded going out today. So after doing a little shopping in Soho, I wanted to check this place out after reading reviews about it on your site. I arrived around 6 and was not surprised to be the only soul in the place besides the waiter and the bartender. I sat in the very front right by the window so I could do a bit of people watching while I dined. The ambiance was perfect and I felt like I was a character in a novel set in the outskirts of Paris. The cocktail list was impressive and I ordered the "flirt" which was made to perfection. For an appetizer I had the tabasco salmon tartar (served w/banana chips) and for my entree I ordered the shrimp salad which was sooooo delicious. I ate every bite. Both dishes were well seasoned and flavorful. This place would be a perfect date spot as well as gathering with friends. I absolutely loved it and will add it to my list of favorites. Great service and great food. Keep up the great work Barmarche!!

Eclectic and delicious!
A friend made a reservation here, and from the name I was expecting Frenchy/bistro food. That was not the case, but what we got was eclectic and delicious. The restaurant is small, dimly lit, and definitely on the romantic side. I was there with a group and our seating was a bit cramped, but not terrible. As for the food, the menu was totally eclectic and random, but in a good way. We had guacamole, calamari, and a goat cheese salad to start; all were delicious. Entrees ranged from fish tacos to cheeseburgers to risotto to roasted chicken. I had scallops, and they were cooked perfectly. Our server was very friendly and accommodating, and overall it was just a great dinner. Highly recommended!

GREAT TIME!
Went here on a Saturday night and had a great time! The place is small sexy with candle lit tables ... A lil stuffy maybe prob with the AC? The food is great! From the almond dates to the lamb chops(wish were bigger) to the amazing shimp tacos and garlic fries!! The staff is friendly and a lil flirtatious no prob there! All and all great place will deff be back!

surprisingly very good
I went Saturday night with a big group of people (9 which I dont suggest since it is not a large place) I have to say the place has a great look to it and the prices are reasonable and it tasted really good. I highly recommend this place.

Not what it used to be
Barmarche used to be a great neighborhood joint. Interesting food, not too expensive, good service. But that was five years ago and wow, has this place gone downhill! My friends and I went for brunch this morning. Everything was fried, lacked seasoning and flavor, the food did not seem fresh and service took forever. Our server didnt even come over once to ask if we were okay or needed anything. It took about 10 minutes just to get water. It's very disappointing, but this place has lost its touch and I wont be back.

total disappointment
We had high expectations as the menu looked creative and cool. The decor was great, service was fine, it was somewhat hot (temp) but the food was just plain bad. Our table had the duck salad, goat cheese beet salad and guacamole to start. These were each very disappointing, the mixture of ingredients was very creative but poorly executed. Our dinner, the bass tacos, braised short ribs and sirloin were each barely touched. The short ribs were not cooked thoroughly leaving huge pieces of fat (not braised properly), the crispy bass tacos were deep fried, so greasy and soft, and the sirloin was overcooked with soggy fries. The bill came to about $80 per person. We refused to stay for dessert, assuming it was going to be just as bad as everything else.

Good monday night experience
Arrived relatively early on a quiet monday night, barmarche slowly filled up, but was never overlycrowded, not sure about weekends though. Cocktail menu was unique and refreshing, poached pear, spicy matador, high ball - all recommended. Ambience was great - intimate with candles and subtle lighting, but still carefree and not oppressive - servers were exceptional and friendly, with prompt yet not overbearing maintenance, probably a given for a relatively slow night, but nonetheless appreciated. We were given all the time in the world to decide meal choices over drinks, and were offered delayed entering of entree's into the kitchen and plenty of time between courses and after the meal finishing drinks to keep the relaxing pace of the night intact. Almond date blue cheese appetizer was excellent, and red snapper entree was above average, fish preparation exceptional, while greens/goat cheese/red onion side was contrasting. Much appreciated night overall.
