    Great Breakfast

I don't know how valid my opinion is seeing as how I'm not a native New Yorker. Recently, I was visiting and I went to the Barking Dog for breakfast. About six dollars will get you eggs, harshbrowns, fruit, a biscuit, and your choice of meat, and it was very tasty! Their coffee was also good, I agree about the servers being a little snobby.

How can I put this nicely?

I sure wish that this was a positive review because I live in the building right next door. But it seems that every time we go here we have a problem. The order often gets messed up. I usually have to ask for water refills. The food is average at best. They've tried to pass off velveeta as cheddar. (I know velveeta when I see it!) And when we complain they are a bit snobby about it. The prices are very cheap but apparently you get what you pay for.

    Great breakfasts

I have had breakfasts here over one hundred times, including this morning. On weekdays, bacon and eggs, great home fries and fresh baked muffin is about six dollars. In addition, their coffee is really good, as opposed to the awful stuff served up in Greek coffee shops. That remains an eternal mystery to me, btw. Why do Greek coffee shops serve such bad coffee?

    Comfort Food and Very Cozy

Pros: Have eaten at the Barking Dog for the past five or six years. Favorites: Turkey Burger -- the best! Shepherd's Pie -- excellent -- and they always have a terrific Shiraz. This place in great in winter, very warm and cozy. Also great in summer if you can get a seat outside in the sun (that is, if you like the sun). If not, sitting outside in the front provides lots of shade and a prime spot for people-watching. Cons: Of course, the credit card thing, but if you find yourself stuck -- run across the street to the Duane Reade ATM -- they only charge 99 cents. Also, the scrambled eggs here could do with a bit more fluff. Otherwise, one of my favorite neighborhood places.

    Never liked this place, but...

I tried the pot roast. Terrific. I've been ordering from restaurants on the ues for many years, the pot roast at BD was one of he best winter time delivery meals I've ever had. Very impressed.

    Decent Food

To all those who need to bash this place for not accepting plastic, shame on you. We're talking diner prices here, not Nobu! On to the food, stick with the basics (burgers & salads) but, try the shrimp po-boy. It's simply amazing!
