poor service, undercooked food
I've been to Barking Dog a bunch of times for brunch and had a good experience. I was very disappointed today. The service was slow (even though the restaurant was barely half full), my salmon burger was undercooked and my server begrudgingly took it back, and he charged me for my ice tea refills (never heard of that before!). I don't think I will be returning, sadly.

Great neighborhood spot!
I had dinner at the Barking Dog the other night with my family and was impressed with the quality and freshness of the food. Every item we ordered tasted great, and the service was warm, friendly, and speedy. For some reason, I was expecting diner-quality food but this place is definitely a big step up from that! The price was reasonable, too. We'll definitely be back!

Great pot roast
This is a place for strictly well prepared comfort food. Staples like turkey, salmon, shepherd's pie & meat loaf are above par. The pot roast is to die for. It's far better than your own grandmas. The soups are all home made. I'm not that familiar with their dessert menu as I rarely order any. By the time I'm finished with their excellent comfort food I never have any room left. I've been visiting this place for 14 years, and except for a hiatus in the mid 2000's when the food succumbed to "diner fare", this has been my favorite comfort food place. Don't miss the "sunset special" from 5pm to 7pm which includes an excellengt salad or soup and a dessert with your meal. This review is only for their 3rd Ave. & 95th St. location.

Not good enough to return
Pleasant waitress. Not so great service , a bit hard to catch her even though place was relatively quiet . Overall I was disappointed with the food, no real flavor and basically no dressing on the salad . Service would have been tolerable if food was good, but it was flat . Sangria recipe needs to be scratched and started anew . Hope this isn't indicative of most neighborhood places .

Nice neighborhood place
We usually just sit at the bar, have some beer and then eat something. Some of the food is actually pretty tasty and we get good service. Believe it or not, you can get a pretty genuine cheesesteak.

Best pot roast anywhere!
I've been coming here since the late 1990's , and except for a short interlude around 2004 or 2005 (when the place changed management), the comfort food has been "just like your mom's" (or better). Even the meat loaf is delicious. There are daily specials which include a meat, fish & pasta dish. The soups are genuinely "comforting". My only qualm is their bathroom which needs to be re-vamped. Their sunset special is a real bargain which includes a salad or soup du jour, main course, served between 5:00 & 7:00 p.m. Above all, don't forego the excellent pot roast.

Good and Casual on the UES
It had been a long time since I've eaten at a Barking Dog. I just moved into the UES and thought I'd try the one near me. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. Our burgers were a perfect medium rare and very good. A warm and welcoming server named Lilly took good care of us. Definitely will be back since I'm in the neighborhood now.
