Was there last night and what a debacle it was. The food was mediocre for anyone who has even the slightest discriminating palate. Everything was slimy or under/overcooked, and the portions were certainly not thought out for a party of 11. (Which is the size of the "private room" aka entrance to the bathroom.) Each "platter" had enough food for six, tops. But the food was actually the highlight. Check this out: Reserved a private room at 9:30 and when we arrived the clever-coiffed maitre-d told us the people were just leaving. 20 minutes later we saw them ordering dessert. As there were 11 of us on a Friday night we were unable to find another place to take us. Were actually seated at 10:40 and believe it or not, the first course didn't arrive until 11:10. It was then that the food came out so quickly the waitstaff was not even changing our plates. It was because they were closing the place up and we happened to be impeding their progress by, you know, eating dinner. Suffice it to say, we left at 12:30, not having been served dessert. (!) Can you imagine?

After having one disappointing meal at Barbuto last summer, I was eager to give it another shot. I figured that I must have caught the kitchen on an off day. Well, sadly, my second visit was even more frustrating and underwhelming. First off, the appetizers are miniscule and bland. I had the yellow tail tartare and could barely taste it. As for the entrees -- If you order a meat dish, as my two friends and I did, you receive a gigantic white plate with a tepid hunk of meat (chicken, duck and lamb in our case) with nothing else. Barely any sauce or seasoning and not a speck of garnish or side dish. I was hacking at my piece of chicken for ten minutes, trying to satiate my by-then-ravenous hunger.

The food is terrific - some of the best mozzarella I've had outside of Italy, better than what's available in Italian delis. I also had the zuccini appetizer and it was delicious - I didn't find it oily at all. The back room is not so nice - don't go to this place with a large party - but the main room is very nice. Apparently, the pork chop is amazing - wasn't able to taste it. Am going back for the 2nd trip in 2 weeks.

After the first time i walked into Barbuto and had the most delicious pork chop i had ever had, i knew it was for real. Each dish was made with so much care, flavor, the ingredients all seasonal. The Bar was beautiful the bartender, was on it, and my waiter was very funny, and helpful. It's extremely affordable for what you get nothing over 19$ a menu that has many tastes but is not to big and complicated but always changing, now that's what i like!

I can't believe this is the same place everyone is saying was great. There were 10 of us in the private room. No atmosphere and right by the bathroom so nothing was private. The waiter was disappointing. He got orders wrong, forgot to take orders, cleared plates while people were still eating and was unapologetic. AND got a 20% tip that was built into the bill. The pasta was barely cooked, tuna tartar bland and this zucchini and cheese app oily as well. No one ordered dessert but they brought one out with a bday candle,. not worth eating.

Place is terrific. food is excellent. Scallop entree tho was more like an appetizer -- I think 3 scallops is a bit stingy and not at all standard. Atmosphere is phenomenal -- really relaxing. My only beef with this place is the hostess - haughty with really no reason to be. We had made rezies for 2 and had to convert them into 3 when a friend unexpectedly joined us and she was totally unforgiving and we had to start anew - she just completely second class citizened us - my instinct was to get confrontational but I decided to write this review instead and make my feelings known publicly.

Was in NYC for 5 days and ate at Barbuta twice. Loved it...
