    Still love it after all these years...

    I dine here often and happily and just don't understand what these ill-behaved kids are bitching about. The food and service here are sophisticated and excellent. The concept--ever-changing, fresh, local market food-- can't be faulted. Want a delicious dinner? Eat here. Want a scene? Go to Pastis.

    just not good

    i was looking forward to eating here for over a year. I love the chefs idea of local and seasonal Italian. It was not good at all. bland pasta, greasy fish and overcooked pork. The only good thing was the reasonable wine list.

    Inconsistent

    I've been there a couple of times and it is totally hit or miss. When it's good, it's good, but when it's bad, it's really bad. Service is "meh." A waiter once decanted some wine into my lap. Interesting deserts. Great atmosphere on summer nights when they lift the garage door.

    i accept that i am slightly bias in that i've been eating here for a couple years and am always treated with a great deal of attention and kindness on each visit; however, that aside, barbuto is generally a winner all around. the chef works his ass off every night, the kitchen table tasting menu is outstanding and without a doubt the best deal in the city - call and ask...the service is hit or miss as they turn-over waitstaff pretty frequently, but honestly it doens't matter, because if you go with good company a good attitude and try lots of dishes, the atmosphere, the respectable wine list and the mostly outstanding food will win you over. order meat and you'll never be disapointed - desserts leave something to be desired, but the dessert wines are sufficient.

    Seriously...

    after living in the hood for over 7 years i finally made it over here. now i know why i never came before or will ever again. hostess was clueless on table asignments as we were told that we could have a table at 8 and than a half hour later in was given away to a people late for their reservation, once we settled into the bar to eat it began with the bartender using wrong liquor in my drinks ( Jack instead of Jim), then my girlfriend ordered the steak and it came like it was just out of the freezer and covered with too many salty olives, when the waiter brought it back it seemed like it was microwaved not cooked in oven. i ordered the carbanata and it was not properly cooked thru, lacking panchetta. not a good place in any city.

    The food's the thing.

    Listen, I've eaten a lot of places, 2 star, 3 star, 4 star, but I know a well made meal when I eat one. The octupus, pork shank, scallops were fantastic, the focus here is on the food. It's noisy . . . but we had a nice bottle of Valtellina for a reasonable price, and like I said, the food is it -- fresh, served hot, fabulous quality of the ingredients.

    Waiter: pushed a stout and an octopus salad. I felt like I was telling a kid he's not going to summercamp when I declined. Restaurant: freezing. I imagine it's better in the summer. They must open up the doors. Food: okay leek soup (but how can you mess that up?). Disappointed with everything else. Go to Florant if you're in the hood.
