    great food- great ambience

    i loved this place! VERY fresh ingrediants- the best feta i ever had. great humus, great bar etc. I would definitely come back. Service was a little lacking, but as long as the food is good- I am happy!

    Beautiful restaurant- good food

    We stumbled upon this restaurant last night. We were not very hungry and ordered only appetizers. The manager sent us complimentary champagne- for no reason. The restaurant is beautiful with very cool bathrooms. The saganaki was the best we've had since Greece. A lamg appetizer on bread was slighly burnt and the shrimp kefides did not have much taste. Those around us however raved about their main courses. I would go back to give it another try- the service and ambience are definitely worth another visit.

    nice, but overpriced

    If you need an upscale ambiance to impress your client or your date, and if you are content with a limited selection of good Greek food, then Barbounia is a good choice. It does not resemble the upscale restaurants in Greece. Moreover, for about twice what you'd pay at some less pretentious Greek restaurants in NYC, Barbounia serves smaller portions of food that are no better than at the informal Greek places. The spreads at Barbounia are good, but if they tripled the quantity they serve, it still wouldn't be a bargain. My party had one of the best tables, but most of the others seemed closer together than I like.

    Rude service

    “You never get a second chance to make a first impression”and your first impression was not good. The hostess was not the problem it was to my surprise it was the night manager. The man was impolite and somewhat arrogant. We arrived around 9:00pm on Friday night hostess greeted us with a smile, he on the other hand was not so nice telling to us “COME!” as he took us to our table in a hostile tone. There were many other open tables but he decided to jam us into a table near the back of the restaurant where no one could get in and out of their seats. It was the worst table in the house and there were two others one on each side of us. We asked for another table he said there was reservation on all of them and this was only thing available. The so called wine expert lacked personality and had no presence. Our waitress was gracious, the food enjoyable about but get it together guys and hire people that can at least be friendly. It says something when the manager is rude. Take out one or two tables it would make the place a little more accessible. We might go back but my wife and I are a little soured by the first part of our evening there. Friday May 2nd, 2008

    Great ambience, good food.

    A friend and I stopped in last weekend while milling for options in Grammercy Park. We had no reservation, and even though it seemed busy, a table was ready as soon as our cocktails were made at the bar. The tables are a bit cramped, my chair was bumped a couple of times. I braved the whole fish, and was very surprised, i loved it. And, their hummus is some of the best I've tried. The service was good, not overbearing, as some places can be. I'll definitely be back.

    A blast

    Friday night I enjoyed the 4 F's Food, Friends, Fun and Full Service at my new Favorite spot Barbounia. Not having reservation we had to wait for 20 or so minutes for a table but it was well worth the wait. My three friends and I went to the bar and had the very creative house cocktails hats off to the creator of such delicious creations of intoxication. The hostess came and got us as soon as the table was ready. Our server was fabulous, an amazing sense of humor we felt right at home. She was attentive, answered our question and made good suggestion. What impressed me most was her honesty telling us something on the menu she didn't like and suggested something that was cheaper that she thought I might enjoy more. This is a rarity in the big city where everyone tries to sell you the most expensive item on the menu. The food was fantastic cheers to the chef. The desserts were the bomb. It was a perfect night I was bumped a few times by people passing by but all in all it was a very pleasant experience. It was a little loud but I guess that is what makes the atmosphere so jumping. I WILL BE BACK. Oh yeah and I didn't have to break the bank either the priced for the area and ambiance an amazing deal. I am the master of change. I am the ruler of my destiny!

    Good food, Avg service

    We had made reservations for saturday evening on opentable.com for 4 people. Although their system was unable to recognize it , we were glad they sat us on time . Its a big restaurant, service was fast, food was good, appetizers were awesome. 3 of us were vegetarian and unfortunately they do not have much veg choices for entree, but desserts were good. Waiter was alright. He asked us to order everything at the beginning and was not very happy that we added one more dessert while eating desserts. The Place was getting crowded and looked like they were trying to kick us out. We got chk without asking for it. Place gets noisy + crowded, but perfect for groups. For a short period of time there was also a belly dancer going around tables.
