Wonderful Night
My Husband and I ate at Barbounia last night and had a great time. The service was great and the atmosphere was so beautiful with all the candles. And to top it all off the food was great too. I can't wait to go back and try something else

Couldn't tell if it was 2pm or 2am
Despite the fact that at 2pm on a Sunday it's difficult to tell if it was 2am simply given the noise, the crowd, the music, and the soire-like atmosphere, I totally loved this place. The food was delish. The middle eastern eggs are higly recommended. I even started putting tahini on my eggs from that pt on. This is a great place for large groups, but IF you want to go w/a date, they'd better be someone you know quite well b/c it can be a bit noisy for two newbies to chat/get to know each other. The $15 extra gets you unlimited mimosas, bellinis, champagne - a big plus....the only thing that killed me were these "manhattan moms" who sit at the bar, w/their 3 yr old in tow drinking an OJ, as they down bellinis w/their girl-friends (the ones that are single and 40 yrs old), as both adults are getting sloshed.

Novice bar staff
The bar staff here doesn't know what to charge for drinks: one bartender didn't know what Amaretto was. And two parts Jack Daniels + one part Amaretto cost $24. Not even the most expensive bar in NYC will charge that amount for a Godfather! Avoid this place at all costs!

Great brunch
Never tried for dinner, but go there for brunch on a regular basis and love it. Food is great, they have a nice choice of eggs and Mediterranean specials, portions are good which makes it easy to share and I really enjoy the atmosphere and a pretty nice crowd

Inconsistent food, poor service
Ordered the special - boeuf bourgignon - after a compelling pitch from the waiter on its taste and tenderness. in reality, it had neither. toughest, most overcooked meat i've ever been served. when i sent it back, which i never do, i had to justify my case multiple times to the waiter and manager, the latter claiming he was french and therefore could attest to the "quality" of the preparation, which he had apparently just eaten. thankfully, the lamb shank replacement was generously portioned, juicy, and tasty. unfortunately my girlfriend's grouper kebabs were highly over-salted and dry. thank god for the tasty octopus appetizer and good bread. bottom line - inconsistent quality for the price and overbearing, condescending staff.

Worst Service Ever - Bar None
We will never return here for brunch or any other meal - ever. We hadn't even put our forks down when they were already trying to clear our plates and rush us out. When one of us stated he wasn't finished yet - he received a death stare like none other. I ordered 1 mimosa, was never asked if I'd like another or refilled, but was charged for the bottomless mimosa deal. Then they lied about why I was charged, saying they don't serve just 1 mimosa, it's only the bottomless deal, and if I choose to only have 1 then it's still the same price. However, as we were leaving, we realized that people being served the "bottomless flute" (as per the wording on my receipt) had a smaller flute glass than what I was served my singular mimosa in.
