Nice chill atmosphere, you can watch your favorite foreign football match while your missus enjoys good food in a hip neighborhood -making everyone happy. Its open and airy, complete opposite of most bars/pubs.

As Ireland was beaten by Italy in the European Cup, I decided to go with my wife to an Italian bar where they played the match on TV to cheer for Italy when they were playing England. I went to BarBossa (as I was on holiday in NYC). I ordered a couple of drinks and was ready for a good game. However, a man (who later appeared to be the owner of the bar) shouted, for no apparent reason, that we had to get out rather than watching the match inside where other customers were drinking. I looked at the waitress who had served me and whom I gave a good tip, and she did not seemed bothered. I ignored his rudeness as I thought this was simply a supporter. Furthermore, we did not block anybody's view and had ordered drinks to stay. However, the same man came back and shouted that we could not stay inside. When I politely asked him why, he just repeated his order and barked that he was the owner of the establishment. As I am not confrontational, and wanted to see and enjoy the match I decided to leave this most unwelcoming bar. I noticed that he was equally unfriendly to other customers after they had ordered their drinks (not before). Perhaps this was his trick to sell more drinks. I don't know but certainly did not feel welcome. I cannot recommend BarBossa. Extremely unwelcoming with a rude owner.

Stumbled upon BarBossa from reading reviews. Small hip cozy restaurant with great Brazilian drinks. Loved the cheese puff rolls. Service was attentive and friendly. Sat at bar and drank until table available. Had the sausage and lentils special. Steak Polenta Ragu good , too. Great chocolate cake for dessert. Made for a memorable Lower East Side evening. Just like the "old days", circa 1980's to 1990's, in Manhattan before the wealthy suburban infiltrators took over.

We stumbled onto Barbossa by accident but ended up having one of the best meals we've had in years. The restaurant is cute and understated, the staff was friendly but unobtrusive, the food was amazing! Everything tasted so fresh, perfectly prepared and the drinks were awesome. We will definitely go back.

I went there with my friend and the food was amazingly awesome i never had such great food in my Life! I have dreams about it also it was just wonderful!

Looking for a cheap place cause I (the broke friend) vetoed reservations at Elizabeth up the street, we saw a small neon BAR sign and gave it a look. Waited about 20 min. for a table in this 20-seat space and sat at the bar and had delicious jalepeno aiparinhas. The atmosphere is great and the food well-priced. Bartender, host/waiter = awesome. Luckily I was in a forgiving mood, though starving, b/c the one reason they don't have more stars for service is b/c our order (of 2 salads, soup and 2 sandwiches) took OVER AN HOUR! at 11 pm. It was unbelievable. Luckily the waiter dealt with my nagging nicely and shut me up by shoving bread at us. Overall, highly recommended as long as you've got the patience. Best for small group meals.

i love the place! the food is great, there are fun people, the staff is friendly (and good-looking) and they have good affordable drinks. it's very small, but that's what makes it so cozy. one of my regulars.
