Went here for dinner and from the time we arrived until we left they treated us like royalty. The servers used our first names constantly and couldn't do enough for us. He suggested for me to get the "special" fish which was a sea bass and amazing. I started with the calamari salad and I really enjoyed it as well. My date had a salad and steak which he said was excellent. The wine we had chosen perfectly accented our meal and they gave us complimentary mint tea at the end. I haven't seen that type of service in a long time in NYC. I highly recommend this restaurant especially for a date as the atmosphere is romantic.

If you want to take a short trip to Morocco with a touch of French espirit, you can do that and get a warm and inviting welcome at Barbes. The servers and owners were all very friendly and went out of their way to make sure we were enjoying our experience there. I recommend the mussels and the couscous. The dessert was heavenly -- tarte tatin and pastilla au lait! Yum! And if you want to go for the true Moroccan experience, have the Moroccan tea -- you smell the fragrant mint immediately as the servers pour the tea from high above the Moroccan tea glasses. I will definitely return.

I went to Barbes based on the reviews here and wasn't disappointed. The place has great food and nice atmosphere. The appetizers tasted much better than main course (I didn't think chicken tagine was that great), so next time I'll just order more appetizers. The tables are close to each other. The service was unhurried and, at times, even nonexistent, so this is not a place for quick dinner. On the other hand, there was no rush to get us out of the restaurant. The lighting was very low and created a romantic mood. My friends and I had a great time and I'd return to this place.

I went here for my 30th Bday which is the day after Christmas and so the place was not busy as expected so I cannot really gauge the atmosphere, but the food was great - however my girlfriend agreed for balloons and a cake for me and agreed the price with the manager. When we got the bill the price for this had gone up dramatically. On top of this was a huge service charge - I'm from the UK and the last time I came to NY (2003) places didn't charge 20% but it now seems that this is becoming the norm in the US. In the UK SC is optional and only given if the service has been exceptional - it seems in NY its expected regardless of whether the service has been good or bad so there is no reason for a waiter / waitress to go that extra mile. Having said that the service at barbes was great, but what with the extra charges, i wouldn't go back.

I really enjoy going to this place. Good drinks, good food & cozy atmosphere. The waitstaff are always very friendly. I think the tangines in this place are among the best in town.

This was a great time on a recent stay in NYC. Not a great place to have a business dinner but atmosphere and food were fabulous. I loved it and will go back again next time in the city. Interesting wine selection and dessert was amazing!

I have been to Barbe twice and have been pleased with my meal. I have had the Tagine and Couscous Traditionale. Both entrees are very good. The lentil salad appetizer was an excellent mix of flavorings.. The first visit our bill added up to be a bit more than planned. The second time I controlled my self, especially with the Moroccan cocktails and appetizers. Gets a lively and loud in the evenings. Murray Hill needed a "grown-up" hip restaurant with an interesting menu. I hope Barbe is a success. Will be back.
