We discovered Barbes about a year ago. We'd been wandering around the neighborhood and just stumbled on it when looking for a dinner spot. Wow! What a find. From the first time we were there, they made us feel at home. The host is accommodating, gracious, and more than willing to help with any special needs you might have. The food rivals the service. Tons of amazing choices. All flavorful, well prepared, and well presented. We had the brochette of chicken as a shared appetizer this evening and it was served with a nice salad and plenty of lovely veggie garnishes. Totally awesome. The entrees we've had have also all been first rate. I can't say whether it's authentic food, but it's sure delicious, well served, and in an amazing atmosphere. We have returned often and will continue to do so. Thumbs up!

Had dinner here last night with 3 friends. Everything was great. We had duck confit and tomato montrachet for appetizers and both were incredibly tasty and beautifully plated. For entrees we had the pastilla, couscous royale, couscous with chicken and shrimp with couscous. Everything again was delicious. The couscous was so tasty and the almonds, raisins and chick peas were a nice touch to this dish. Unfortunately we had no room for dessert. The only negative is that the place itself is rather small so the tables are basically on top of one another. But if you can live with that, the food is great.

My girlfriend and I went there on a Saturday night after reading several reviews about it. The service was great..just get there early. We sat down around 7:00 pm to an almost empty restaurant. Around 8:00 pm just as we were finishing the place started to become crowded...overly crowded. There isn't a large wait staff either so they were running all over the place. The food was good as well no complaints there. The restaurants atmosphere was also nice giving a warm almost romantic feeling. Key Tip: They do accept reservations.

Had onion soup and sirloin steak, which were delicious. Atmosphere is nice as well. Warm and relaxing. The only problem was the waiting stuff/ They were fairly nice, but not well trained at all. I don't recommend this place for any special occasion.

The cooking is starting to fall in standards , not good as it used to be. The service was quite ok. I was embarassed that I had brought my in-laws there.

From the time we were warmly greeted at the door to the time we were bid a fond farewell, the evening was a pleasure. We told the hostess that we had a schedule to meet, but we never felt rushed and each course arrived in a timely manner. The food was delicious. We had a roasted eggplant appetizer, a chicken tagine and a grilled salmon platter, plus a beautiful pastilla au lait with Turkish coffee for dessert. Even the Moroccan (I think) music contributed to the atmosphere. Definitely will return!
