Agree with others - the place looks great, the music is great, the patrons around you appear nice people, the food is moderate taste and poor value simply because the price and the quality of cooking is at disconnect - what does it take to steam a red snapper fillet and place 3 clams and 3 mussels around it?, and the service is all done per your waving of your arms. Sticker shocker in the end was the biggest disappointment - $187 bucks for two people who shared the app and desert. They even forgot to bring my pasta side.

My boyfriend and I live in the neighborhood and have been impressed by the fact that every time we walked by, the restaurant was jam-packed. There was always a wait to get in, and the outdoor seating was great. So I decided to try it out with some friends--it was a mistake. Our server overtly ignored us for about 30 minutes after we sat and again throughout the meal. He was occupied with dancing with some other servers to the way-too-loud techno 80's remixes. We had to flag him down every time we wanted him, and each time he looked angry that we were interrupting his groove. The food was satisfactory at best. The atmosphere was distracting. I will not go back.

A group of 10 of us made a reservation here for a saturday night. They called to see if we'd be on time and we said probably and they said if weren't sure if we could please push our reservation back an hour. So we said sure. We got there when we said we would and not only were we cramped up into a tiny corner basically touching chairs with another table, but the waiter came up to us about 5 minutes after being seated and said, "you're going to have to order now since you held us back an hour". We all ordered pastas and salads and only half of us were of age to drink so they only got a couple of glasses of wine. Bear in mind the entrees themselves were not expensive, only about $15-$20. So the server, about 10 minutes later, comes over and says, "sorry but my manager has said that you have to order a $50 minimum per person or else you can't eat here". Appalled at this, we asked the waiter if he was joking considering the fact that their most expensive entree was no where close to $50. He said no, that we pushed them back an hour, we only ordered pastas and salads and it was a saturday night. Just because we were 20 and didn't order drinks somehow made us unworthy of service, even after THEY were the ones who pushed back our reservation.

Let me start off saying I'm a pretty picky diner. To my suprise, I actually enjoyed my meal here. It's has a very interesting decor, but they were playing techno the night I was there, which sort of was annoying. I had the special fish of the day, and the portion was just right. The veggies were great with the Mahi-Mahi. I had no problem at all with the service. They were all really polite--filling are glasses with water, promp service, etc. I'd come back here.

First, let me say the the food here was quite tasty. Salad not overly dressed, the chicken moist and juicy, the pasta perfectly cooked. That said - trying to get someone to actually serve said food was another matter. Virtually ignored from the moment we walked in until the check came - it was like watching a bad train wreck. Not a single member of the wait staff was helpful. In fact the service was so egregiously bad that I actually wrote the management. Shockingly, they did not respond. There are lots of really good Italian restaurants in NY and absolutely no reason to go to one that treats you poorly. Maybe I'm just not hip enough for the staff to wait on me...

Having walked by this restaurant many times, I was enticed by its atmosphere to go in for dinner one night. From the start, we were struck by the inattentive service - we actually had to flag the waitress to order wine and had to ask two times for water. The food was at best mediocre - the endive/asparagus salad looked like they missed the plate with the endive and asparagus; my red snapper was actually tough and the sauce tasted like they dropped a jar of sugar in it - I believe most people would have sent my entree back as inedible. While everything indicated that we should have cut our losses after the main courses, my friend was lured in even further by the decadent descriptions on the desert menu along with her desperate desire to "rescue" what had been to this point a bad meal. Unfortunately, the lemon "scented" cheesecake was instead a potently lemon flavored and tasted as if it came from a freezer. We had not seen the waitress since she delivered us our "glasses" of wine (which were barely 1/3 of a glass) earlier in the evening. She did promptly give us our check, which was the only outstanding part of the experience. Much to my dismay, the meal was a bust. Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else.

Baraonda is the cutest little italian restuarant. My boyfriend and I had the most romantic, cozy time. The setting is intimate, great music, highly attentive waitstaff, delicious food & wine. Very good value for your money. Can't wait to go back.
