    Not Authentic Spain

The Tapas, although not too bad, were a real rip-off. The plates were too small and the price is too expensive for what you get. They get you drunk on cheap sangria (and very expensive) then get you thirsty with their salty potato tapa. My husband is from Spain and I (although a native New Yorker) have traveled to Spain for several years now. This place is not authentic when it comes to their foods or service. They need to hire a Spanish waitress who can come out in Flamenco shoes and say a word or two in Spanish. the only authentic Spanish was the wall pictures of former Bull fighters and of course, a print of picasso. This place is not recommended by an authentic Spaniard nor this native New Yorker.

    reminds me of spain

sweet, charming, down-to-earth spanish tapas joint. it does not disappoint. for those who haven't traveled to spain, the tapas bars do not have table service, and another reason why i love visiting bar carrera in both locations, reminds me of spain. authentic products from spain, took my madrid friends here, they were very pleased and satisfied.

    Just Go

Bar Carrera is just another reason to love this city -- with its excellent meals that are to be had for incredibly reasonable prices. From its flatware to its 40s music and cozy interior to its simple, flavorful, and interesting small plates, everything at Bar Carrera is executed with microscopic attention to detail and obvious high-level skill. You've got to eat the "egg in a blanket." I don't even like writing these reviews b/c who needs more work? But I felt I owed it to Bar Carrera b/c they do such a fine job and deserve the praise. We went early and had no trouble getting seated, but since this place is small, not sure how it would be at standard feeding time. One minor complaint -- there's no table service. The bartender waited on us anyway. I guess b/c it was early and slow. Also, if you like Sancerre try the Con Class '07.

This place is great. Prices are very cheap (split 8 tapas plates and two carafes of sangria with one other person, bill came to $48 each with tax and tip). The food is delicious. The Egg in a Blanket is amazing, this is something I know I will crave in the future. The Tomato Tarte is also very good. Great for a date or a night out with the girls....

    Really tasty

I really enjoyed this place alot. The tapas was surprisingly eclectic and more importantly it tasted great (great wine too). Small place but comfy, feels like it should be in a Spanish seaside town not on Houston street. I recommend giving this place a try. You won't regret it.
