Bar Tabac is terrific
This is one of my favorite places in the city. I love the vibe. The food is consistently good and the staff is kind of great, even though last time I went our very cute waiter was upselling a little more than I like. I appreciate the fact that you can splurge if you like but you can also keep it simple and cheap, if you prefer. Tonight they had terrific live music. Don't be tempted by the Bistro Bites.. . Get the duck salad. Or the snails. Their steak is great. Coq au vain is delicious...and what's better than a little bucket of french fries?

Good Value and Atmosphere on Smith St...
I finally tried BarTabac for the first time last night. Food was good but not spectacular. I liked the atmosphere...dark, nice, not too loud, Service was solid. Given their prices I think this place is a good value. I haven't tried the mussels though.

Bar Tabac sells it's soul
Bar Tabac used to be one of the best rest/bars in Brooklyn but after the much hyped article in Travel & Leisure it's lost it's quality and.... local patrons. My friend and I have been going here for years but recently we had a very unpleasant experience and we have both vowed never to go back. We got there for an early dinner at 6:30pm on a Friday night only to be rushed through dinner and conversation so they could sit more people as soon as possible. AND they were not even shy about saying it! We orded a full meal and a bottle of wine and before we could decide on dessert and finish our wine they asked us to move to the bar so they can seat more people. We still had wine in our glasses to finish and were having a really nice conversation. The food was below average. It seems everything from the mood/ambience to the food has suffered. Good luck B. Tabac...you would do better on the UES.

A little taste of Europe!
Definitely try the mussels, and the tower of light bite treats that you can pick and choose 5 from about 15 options. Nice wine list, and a great place to sit in a cozy corner on a date.
