    Drinks on a Monday

We strolled by this place after having lunch a couple of blocks away. We decided to go in for a drink. Wow, the bartender was amazing. He crafted drinks that were delicious. We'd been to a speakeasy in Manhattan a few days before and the drinks here were better than anything we had there and half the price. The lobster bisque was good too! Great service great time.

    Poor service

I stopped here for brunch on my way to the hospital to visit my severely ill cat. The waitress was terribly rude for absolutely no reason. Somewhere between a snap and a grumble. I mentioned this to another server but the snapper never had the courtesy to apologize. I tried later to call the manager of the restaurant but after holding for some time I was abruptly cut off. Otherwise the restaurant gets a 3.8 from me. Just this nasty waitress (and small coffee cups) ruined an already difficult morning.

Haters gonna hate, but I love this place

I honestly don't know what (almost) everyone is bitching about. I've been to Bar Tabac several times and never once have I been rushed, been hovered over, had anyone be rude to me, or left the place anything less than extremely satisfied. It's on the pricier side (for me) but the portions are generous. I'm addicted to their Coq au Vin (so SO good!), and the lamb steak is amazing as well. Even when it gets crowded I love the atmosphere. I say come on the earlier side if you can, have a glass of wine (I recommend the Chardonnay), and maybe stop expecting your ass to be kissed when you eat out? Just my two cents!

    Very Mediocre

I passed by this place all summer and liked the look an feel from the outside. So I finally go for dinner and left very disappointed and annoyed that I spent good time and money at this place. We were placed in the worst spot in the house- next to the heaters which also happens to be in front on the bathrooms. Food was decent, steak was fine but nothing to rave about. And sure there was a band which was enjoyable. But the waitress gives no personality and little attention. To top it off the only accept AMEX and the manager laughed because we were unaware and tried to pay with Visa. It was my mistake but I didn't need to be laughed at after waiting for 10 minutes to pay. Can find plenty of other restaurants with better food and service.

    ugh

Look. I've lived all over the manhattan and the boroughs. I tell you that Brooklyn is the only place where you expect a beard-hair and an attitude from some waitstaff hipster. I get that you are listening to too much Elliot Smith, that they ran out of your favorite merlot at the wine store and you want the republicans to stop punishing Obama, but does that mean it has to be while I'm look to pay for an honest meal. All that being said this place is really not up to the hype. I have seen a ton of "sex in the city" brooklyn girls eating here and really the food and atmosphere is sub-par. Just because it has a french name and has a somewhat classy sounding menu does not mean that it is a good restaurant by any means. If you value your cash and don't feel like being condescended to by a bearded hipster then steer clear of this place.

It is not bar or a pub

Bar Tabac has a bar but it is a restaurant. No one can dispute the place has great atmosphere. It gets very crowded because many people know that this place is affordable, has good food, live music during the week and the atmosphere is casual and fun. It has all the elements of a great neighborhood spot. I go often with my husband for dinner or lunch with friends. It has been my go to place for years, when i can get a table.

    Good place

How can you beat the mussels. It's a nice atmosphere and the night We went, our waitress was great. Really don't understand the negative reviews. This place is worth checking out.
