    Skimpy Portions

The very first time I ordered from this place, we found a huge rock in our pasta. We had ordered the pasta with clams and they tried to tell me it was an unopened clamshell. Reluctantly, they delivered a replacement. I gave the delivery guy the rock b/c he told us Stuzzichini didn't believe me! The food is excellent, but the portions are so small for the price.

    Needs Improvement

6pm on Saturday open table showed every time was available that night for a reservation. Should have known better when we got there at 8:30 and it was half empty. Space is pretty cool and the food is very good. But, service leaves a lot to be desired and tapas portions are amusingly small. Despite empty restaurant and all 4 of us there, host didn't seat us for a good ten minutes until we asked what was going on; no explanation offered. We were in no rush and sat having glass of wine while looking at the menu; no bread until well after we ordered. Ordered a glass of wine that we never got and had to ask for a second time; the check showed both and had to be fixed. Ordered 5 tapas for 4 people; could have had 50. Notably, the $7 or $8 dollar eggplant was literally one thin slice of eggplant. They should be embarrassed to serve that. I know tapas are small plates but when 4 people can barely share 5 as an app, that is just silly. We decided to change our tapas plan and do entrees lest we leave hungry. But, one of us ordered 3 more tapas as a meal and it came 15 minutes before other dishes. Waiter came over to apologize saying there was miscommunication in kitchen, but then walked away and we had to call him back to ask him to replace them with new, fresh, hot plates. He tell us he was buying us a glass of wine which he did, but as said, check had an extra glass we never received. All in all, food is pretty good but it ends there and half empty restaurant makes me think I am not the only one who feels this way.

Cool room, fair food, poor service

I had dinner here the other night. The food was fair. We had the salmon and then tried the rice balls and some cheese. The best are the green olives. Delic! However, the service was not good at all. Our waiter kept forgetting about us. We had to keep waiving him down for attention, whether it was to take our order, bring more cocktails, or just give us the check. Be prepared for a long meal, as you have no other choice.

Best meal I had in a long time

Can't get my mind off the food. Everything was just so amazingly delicious, perfectly seasoned, and fresh! Sampled the pecorino, rice balls, olives, orrechiete w/cauliflower, salmon. The zeppole, orange olive oil cake, and the affogato were heavenly. Best enjoyed in a crowd to sample many dishes.

    Great

After hearing/reading mixed reviews I wasnt sure what to expect, but the meal definitely beat expectations. Everything we ordered was amazing - rice balls, eggplant parm and gnocchi. The atmosphere was very nice but not very unique and the service was just average. The portion size was a little small for the price, but the quality of food made up for it. I will definitely be back soon!

    So Disappointing!

This is one of my favorite restaurants in the city, but I was disappointed with my experience this past Friday night. Despite the restaurant being almost empty upon our arrival, we were sat right on top of another table. Our appetizers took longer than usual to arrive, but we didn't mind as we all had drinks and were talking. Bread was never offered and we finally had to ask for it, and even then were not given oil or butter with it. After three out of the four of us had finished our starters (i.e. one person was still eating), they came and cleared away everyone's silverware and plates. They brought us a new basket of bread...and then nothing. No food came for 40 minutes, no one checked on us, nothing! When we began loudly talking about how the wait was becoming ridiculous (as our waiter was nowhere to be found so we could actually tell him), we saw him furiously typing in an order at the computer. Five minutes later, he came over to tell us he had no idea what the holdup in the kitchen was and would go check. When our food arrived shortly after that, it was steaming hot (which was good), a sure sign that he had forgotten to ever place our dinner orders. When we'd finished eating and declined a dessert menu we thought he would bring our check, but he disappeared! 30 minutes later we saw him standing by the bar about 10 feet from our table, just staring at us. We motioned for the check and paid and were on our way, but not without wondering what had just happened...

    Nothing Special...at all

The food was honestly sup-par for this quality of restaurant...the apps were acceptable, but none was "good"... the pasta was pretty good, but nothing to write home about...the branzino was a tad embarrassing, and the veal meatballs were good, but why were they served in a broth rather than marinara sauce? service was somewhere between not so good and okay...the waiter seemed to have a hard time remembering silverware, wine, etc...and he was somewhat cold when asked for suggestions... Though the place wasnt expensive, and the "french bistro" decor was fine, in this economy--where there are tons of choices in this price bracket, Bar Stuzzichini really fell below par.
