    Not a true italian pesto

So difficult to explain to a true italian waiter that pesto sauce is not supposed to be made in the way the restaurant offered me. Pesto in italian means "pestare" - the ingredients in a traditionally made pesto are ground with a circular motion of the pestle in the mortar. Bar Pitti pesto is unappetizing. Instead seems it's made in a blender. Its like a green puree with no taste at all... Sorry but this is too bad for such a well rated restaurant...

For a person in love...with food

We went on a whim, drunk with happiness from our walk round the park and along Bleecker Street, but we only had money for one meal! so we asked the owner if it would be possible to share an appetizer and an entree? Not only did he oblige, but he made sure we had double servings of spinach with garlic and pine nuts, and a HUGE salmon. When we asked for the bill we found that we had still, mirabile dictu, enough for two desserts and coffee. We stumbled out after several hours of the best Italian meal I've ever had outside Italy, and I've had quite a lot of those, from Rome to Bologna. We will return, with enough for two meals this time, but nothing will ever top that marvelous day!

    Super Duper authentic italian

Came to Bar Pitti with my girlfriend and had one of the best italian meals ever, and thats saying a lot as I grew up on italian food. They had the most amazing mozzarella cheese I have ever had imported from Napoli I believe (may have been another city). Every thing was great and perfect. Dessert was to die for

    Staff

The atmosphere was excellent. The maitre'd and owner were lovely but the rudeness of our waiter was appalling! He chewed gum, threw the menus and corrected a young table of four people on tipping!

    mediocre

this is 1st time i have submitted a review but the poor service and nothing-special italian food here prompted me to do so.waiter who started with us was very nice but then we were subjected to another who took our blackboard menu away and made us feel very rushed from that point on. he even tried to remove our unfinished bottle of wine from the table during dinner. mussels were delicious but the pastas were oversauced and oily.there are enough pleasant and good italian restaurants in this city that one needn't be subjected to bar pitti's attitude and mediocrity.i guess the low prices keep it crowded.

Some of the best neighborhood italian food!

I love this place - it's a casual, no frills, excellent Italian joint and I highly recommend it. I've been there several times and have loved every meal!
