We went on a whim, drunk with happiness from our walk round the park and along Bleecker Street, but we only had money for one meal! so we asked the owner if it would be possible to share an appetizer and an entree? Not only did he oblige, but he made sure we had double servings of spinach with garlic and pine nuts, and a HUGE salmon. When we asked for the bill we found that we had still, mirabile dictu, enough for two desserts and coffee. We stumbled out after several hours of the best Italian meal I've ever had outside Italy, and I've had quite a lot of those, from Rome to Bologna. We will return, with enough for two meals this time, but nothing will ever top that marvelous day!

Came to Bar Pitti with my girlfriend and had one of the best italian meals ever, and thats saying a lot as I grew up on italian food. They had the most amazing mozzarella cheese I have ever had imported from Napoli I believe (may have been another city). Every thing was great and perfect. Dessert was to die for

The atmosphere was excellent. The maitre'd and owner were lovely but the rudeness of our waiter was appalling! He chewed gum, threw the menus and corrected a young table of four people on tipping!

this is 1st time i have submitted a review but the poor service and nothing-special italian food here prompted me to do so.waiter who started with us was very nice but then we were subjected to another who took our blackboard menu away and made us feel very rushed from that point on. he even tried to remove our unfinished bottle of wine from the table during dinner. mussels were delicious but the pastas were oversauced and oily.there are enough pleasant and good italian restaurants in this city that one needn't be subjected to bar pitti's attitude and mediocrity.i guess the low prices keep it crowded.

I love this place - it's a casual, no frills, excellent Italian joint and I highly recommend it. I've been there several times and have loved every meal!

make no bones about it this is the same as eating in Italy , the owner is obsessed with giving the highest quality food that he can buy and all his suppliers know it. It is worth the wait do not miss this place

Last week, I took yet another friend to my favorite, no-frills Italian eatery. The tight tables, the rushed service, the rustic menu items, the organized chaos surrounding us as we, getting caught up in the energy, chatted at schoolgirl pace, dipping bread into the perfectly-spicy olive oil...and it hit me just why I adore this place. For the couple of hours I enjoy here, I feel removed from NYC, forgetting completely that the subway back to reality is 2 streets away. It is my brief escape to another place; not quite the sidewalks of Venice, but one that satisfies my hunger for authentic cuisine and service (which is always peppered with just the right amount of curtness, just like in Europe). My friend was impressed, and thrilled with our outstanding eggplant parmesan, tender, seasoned sliced steak and perfectly whipped chocolate mousse. I usually can't resist their pasta, but the meat was a no-regret choice this time around. I can always get pasta next time...next time being a definite!
