Decent food, Long long wait
Qualifier is this poor experience was on a busy Fri night. However, it took over an hour to get our entrees. The waitress did not scmooze or acknowledge how long we were waiting, and only when we threatened leaving did they acknowledge and apologize. After complaining, they ended up giving us our entrees comped, but more effort than we had been looking for in a nice dinner out. Food was good not great, better than average, but don't think we'll be back.

Delicious Gluten Free Food
They have an extensive gluten free menu and a trained staff to handle gluten free dishes. A true delight for celiacs. You must try the lemongrass pork small plates. So delicious! It's so nice to see another amazing restaurant with gluten free menus. Pretty much everything from the regular menu was on the gluten free except one noodle dish and the calamari. SO delicious. My new favorite restaurant :)

Bar Bao Baby - and Mommy and Daddy - Family Friendly!
Bar Bao is aready one of our favorite restaurants - from the crispy snapper to the melty duck. My husband and I hadn’t had the chance to go there together since our son was born. Walking by in the early evening, we wondered if we could bring in a nine-month year old. Just as we were about to lose our nerve, a man stepped out of the cab and said “Trust me, you’ll love it.” I replied, “We already love it, but we are worried about him and the other guests.” The man smiled, and told us “it will be fine.” The man (who we quickly learned was one of the owners) walked us in, asked us to sit where we would be comfortable, had his staff whisk away the stroller, bring a high chair and age-appropriate toys to distract a nine month year old. In a few minutes, Max had a small plate of taro he loved and he was tasting tiny pieces of – the lamb lollipops, grilled red snapper, duck, and all the sides. Max thought he had hit the baby lottery – chill music, yummy food, toys, and an attentive staff. We were thrilled and were out in less than an hour and Max made his bedtime. I can’t imagine a happier dinner for the whole family.

Great meal and great time!
This place is the true definition of a "neighborhood gem." The food is definitely well prepared, delicious and a creative twist on traditional dishes. The service is excellent - it's refreshing to have servers who actually know how to pour wine and are familiar with the dishes both in terms of preparation and flavors. Favorite dishes are the wagyu beef, the duck hash and the pork belly. To address a previous comment made about the snapper - it seems the restaurant may have taken this comment to heart since I had the dish recently to see if the comment was true and was pleasantly surprised to find that the dish consists of both the lightly fried fillets and the bones. In my opinion, the dish was successful - the fish was delicious and the presentation of the bones is actually a fairly traditional way of showing where the meat came from and its freshness. My husband and I have become regulars and will be sure to return for more wonderful dining experiences.

Good food, overpriced
I got delivery that came in a timely fashion although it came w/no set-ups and cold salads piled on top of hot soup. I got Pho, which is known to have extremely rare beef. I am not at all a raw meat-o-phobe at all. I love steak tare tare and enjoy my steaks rare - as long as they are seared on the outside. It's one thing if you're in a restaurant and you add raw meat to boiling liquid (think fondue) but it's pretty unsafe to send raw meat out in a delivery order. No sear on the outside, so bacteria could be present from anyone who handled the meat. I had to boil the soup broth at my house and pour over the meat. Not a huge deal but uh, the point of takeout is so that I don't have to cook or do dishes. I was also shocked at the price of the summer role. At $9.00 it was about $3.00 too expensive, maybe $2.00. Also, the $12 for the few cold shrimp (cut in half) and green papaya salad was ridiculous. Overall, food was good, delivery came on time but w/o set-ups, the raw beef was a bit of a turn-off and I paid about $8.00 too much.

Took The Entire Family and Everyone Raved
So my husband and I took both sets of parents to Bar Bao when they were in town recently and they haven't stopped talking about how good Bar Bao was. My mother-in-law got the whole fried snapper that a reviewer complains about down below and it was a whole fried fish carcass wrapped around the flash of the fish which had been filleted and cut up into smaller chunks before frying. The portion was extremely generous and we never even finished it. She absolutely loved the spicy-sweet sauce that was drizzled over the fish. My husband got the pork belly entree and it was phenomenal, luxurious and soft but with a nice crunch in the skin. My father-in-law tried the sticky rice with Chinese sausage and one of the steak entrees and loved both. Everything else, from the market fish Mekong Style, to the lamb lollipops, the daikon duck hash, the street style corn side, etc. was very good. It's not a cheap meal, but it's not blow the bank expensive either. For my money it is totally worth it.

Good time was had by all, the after-effect of alcohol not so much
There were six of us and each ordered a different appetizer and entree so we could have more variety of tastes. For me, the Daikon Duck Hash and the Pork Belly were unique and excellent. The Crispy Whole Red Snapper was good but not unique enough for the price. The green curry accompanying the Loup de Mer was bland, all I could taste was salt and a bit of curry. The Pan Seared Market Fish (salmon on that day) was so-so because the sauce was too watery; I like my salmon crispy (Le Cirque has the best one so yet). The Crispy Frog Leg, battered and fried, was good although I prefer mine sauteed. I like the Duck Fried Rice, a very tasty variety of fried rice. The only major complaint is that three of us really felt the after-effect of alcohol, even though each only drank one glass, from prosecco wine and the mixed drink that has tamarind sauce in it,the name of which I forget. I will definitely go back to try the Sizzling Cuttlefish, the Curry Shrimp, and the Pho. What I won't try is another alcoholic drink.
