I'll confess, we went to BA because we are Bobby Flay fans... Had lunch there, and will have to agree with most people here that the prices are high. Most items we had were pretty good, but the homemade chips w/ blue cheese dip was fabulous (a must try!). The most disappointing part about our experience was that the server did not inform us that fries come with the plate-of-the-day, which was a pulled bbq duck sandwich ($19). When we asked for a side item recommendation, he suggested the chips, which we ordered and loved. However, when the sandwich arrived, we realized that we got more potatoes. In my opinion, it would have been courteous of him to let us know that fries come with the meal, and that we might want to sub for the chips (same price as fries $7) to avoid starch/potato overload.

We went for Valentine's Day (which had a prix fixe menu) and the food was wonderful. I especially enjoyed the shrimp cocktail appetizer with tomatillo salsa. The downside to the delicious food was that our dinner for two (appetizers, entrees, dessert & drinks) came to a whopping $280. Had we not being paying with a gift card we would have gone elsewhere. This place might be best reserved when having a business meal on someone else's tab.

Come on bobby, this food can be better....I think the vegas style of serving isn't cutting it. And the A/C was broken when we went. The waiter was nice, and took good care!

Just had dinner, the kitchen does not understand how to cook the food at medium. First it was rare, sent it back, then came back charred and unedible. To add insult, they were rude about it and basically said it was my fault! Bobby Flay, you just lost a customer!!

i was at the bar waiting for a client..i was alone, and happened to overhear a conversation between the two female bartenders... since i was alone, i tried to engage in the conv, but was met with a snotty "what are u talking about" response...i was just trying to kill some time..i felt embarassed and humiliated...there was no call for that treatment...anyway my meal was good, and i liked the atmosphere, but that bartender has to go!!!

We came back to Bar Americain for a third visit and so far they are proving greatness. The food is always great, I mean really great!!! I noticed a few changes on this visit and was happy to try them out. The Boston lettuce salad was sooo good!!! We always have the tasting from the raw bar, always good! We love the rack of pork which came with a delicious creamed corn (last time it was creamed onions with kale? which I also loved). Anyway, you get the point...the food is great and the service seems to get better every visit. We will continue to dine here and recommend it to our friends...although a little pricey (even for midtown) still worth a visit...every time! The place is beautiful as well, very sophisticated surroundings!

Bar Americain continues to be one of my favorite Manhattan restaurants. I've been 3 times, bringing new people each time. The service is respectful, the ambiance is absolutely incredible, and the food is very good. Two recommendations: Kentucky Hot Brown and Pacific Coast Butterfish - I'd eat both repeatedly! The only drawback would be the dessert - not as impressive, original, and flavorful as I would expect a restaurant with Bobby Flay's backing to have. Other than that, I'd definitely return for the food and wonderful atmosphere for a memorable evening with special friends and family. Bon Appetit! :)
