Am puzzled by all the bad reviews, because my experience was top notch. The place looks amazing: high ceilings (cuts noise--yay!) and an Art-Deco-inspired decor that looks like it ought to be on the cover of an Ayn Rand book. The Vidalia onion soup is one of the best onion soups I've ever had: pleasantly rich, beefy broth (but not oversalty), onions cooked just right, big chewy crouton, and heaps of gooey brown melted Cheddar. My husband's Kentucky Hot Brown was PHENOMENAL: big slices of hot turkey breast on French Toast, topped with Mornay sauce and then gratineed with cheese. Not a diet dish to be sure, but mouthwatering and perfectly cooked. My grilled pizza featured the intriguing flavor combination of chunked bacon, caramelized onion, and toasted garlic. Grilling ensured a super-crisp crust, although the cheese could have been slightly more cooked. Must have for dessert: the bourbon praline profiterole with buttermilk ice cream. HEAVENLY! The service was attentive and friendly but not hovering. Great beer list. We will be back for certain. Bravo Bobby!

    SO overrated

I have a friend who loooves this place...what is she having that is so amazing?? I certainly didn't find it. My boyfriend and I went and had 2 appetizers and 2 sides. The food is good, not great. It's extremely heavy, and you are not left feeling like it was worth it to feel like a brick. The flavors aren't subtle. I had the lamb chops and they were tough. My boyfriend's duck was pretty good, even though it wasn't mind blowing. The sides were like bar food (such as the cauliflower and goat cheese gratin). It's just too expensive to be this mediocre.

Is it the most amazing restaurant ever? No. Is it expensive? Yes. However, I had a great meal here at Bar Americain. Had the roasted pork, which was cooked nicely and seasoned perfectly with amazing sauce. Wife enjoyed the seafood and the steak my father in law had was unreal. Also enjoyed the cocktails and the nice beer menu. In addition, our service was top notch. Overall I recommend it.

    Surprised by bad reviews!!-

I never write reviews, but I feel like I should since I'm honestly shocked by all the negative ones. I live and work nearby and have been to Bar Americain at least 2 dozen times. I have NEVER had a bad experience and always have an amazing meal and great service. It's not cheap so if it's not in your budget, don't go. But the food is top-notch and it has never once disappointed.

    Surprised by the bad reviews

Been here a few times since I work on 6th and 51st so this is a convenient go to spot w/o being bogged down by the tourists at Rockefellar and never had a bad experience. Service has always been attentive and food really good. The price is fine for the neighborhood, but understand that if you want a lower budget meal, then this isn't the place for you.

    Nothing to write home about

I am quite disappointed with the meal I had at Bar Americain. Between myself and my three friends, I tried at 2 appetizers, 4 dishes and 3 sides, and none of them impressed me. This is an incredibly expensive meal to just be okay. There are much better restaurants all throughout the city that are far more reasonable. For prices like this, I expect a gastronomic fiesta on my pallet, and I'm sorry I wasted an expensive meal on a big-name place that doesn't deliver. I do have one positive comment, which is that, contrary to what other reviewers are saying, I received fantastic service. I am on crutches and the wait staff were very accommodating of my needs, and generally, throughout the meal, were incredibly prompt and attentive. It's a shame their talents aren't being used on a better product.

OFF Night? Or Just not worth it?

Went here for a family bday dinner and had a bad experience. Not only were there fruit fly's and bugs around our table, but the waiter spilled water all over us after hitting over a glass. We were soaked and heading to a Bway show afterwards. All he offered in return was a free App. It was sad because we are both big Bobby Flay fans and were looking forward to this night for a while. The food was average, Service other than our issues was nothing great and the prices weren't worth it. Its Hyped up because of who is the owner and founder of the resturant but based on what we saw, Bobby Flay hasn't cooked there in years nor seen what his resturant had become, sub par...
