Amazing
The main course and desert was amazing. Inexpensive when compared to Del Posto.

Disappointing
The food wasn't that bad, but for the money it was on 12 Nov 2011. An olive pit in the Chopped Salad is unworthy of any chef. Tooth repair later this week. And one other in our party of four ventured for the raw oysters and paid the price six hours later. Maybe we were just unlucky; but all in all a shameful performance.

Surprised
The bad reviews I'm reading make me tell my experience with bar americain. I had to BEG my way in the first time and was so glad they made room for us! I'm in NYC at least twice a year on business and never skip this, tho my rule is to always try new places with only one old fave. THIS is always my old fave! Love the spicy southwest influence, his onion soup is best I've ever eaten, and I've never had a disappointing meal there.

Totally over rated
Was not impressed. The spinach was under cooked and too oily. The food was Ok. Nothing spectacular. Sorry Bobby!! But this joint is a miss.

Poorest service on the planet
I was their with a British film producer and he wanted a good burger. The burgers were nothing to write home about but the service was subpar. Our servers were rude, it took 25 minutes for our order to be taken. When I tried to order coleslaw, I was told that it was portioned for tacos! I offered to order it as a side and pay extra and this time the server acted like I had asked for something out of this world. Avoid this place, so many better places in New York.

Small Fish
Came here on a business lunch. Had the cobb salad, which was solid as always. My colleague has fish, which was the smallest portion I have ever seen. It was appetizer-like and embarrasing to serve. If you come here and are a little hungry, do not order the fish.

Just OK
Dinner here tonight was a high-end mixed bag. Fried oysters and trout salad were pretty good. But the main course, porterhouse lamb chops were ridiculous: two small, gristly, bony pieces of lamb--not even six bites to the whole entree. Wine was good but at $14 a glass it ought to be.
