Surprised by bad reviews!!-
I never write reviews, but I feel like I should since I'm honestly shocked by all the negative ones. I live and work nearby and have been to Bar Americain at least 2 dozen times. I have NEVER had a bad experience and always have an amazing meal and great service. It's not cheap so if it's not in your budget, don't go. But the food is top-notch and it has never once disappointed.

Surprised by the bad reviews
Been here a few times since I work on 6th and 51st so this is a convenient go to spot w/o being bogged down by the tourists at Rockefellar and never had a bad experience. Service has always been attentive and food really good. The price is fine for the neighborhood, but understand that if you want a lower budget meal, then this isn't the place for you.

Nothing to write home about
I am quite disappointed with the meal I had at Bar Americain. Between myself and my three friends, I tried at 2 appetizers, 4 dishes and 3 sides, and none of them impressed me. This is an incredibly expensive meal to just be okay. There are much better restaurants all throughout the city that are far more reasonable. For prices like this, I expect a gastronomic fiesta on my pallet, and I'm sorry I wasted an expensive meal on a big-name place that doesn't deliver. I do have one positive comment, which is that, contrary to what other reviewers are saying, I received fantastic service. I am on crutches and the wait staff were very accommodating of my needs, and generally, throughout the meal, were incredibly prompt and attentive. It's a shame their talents aren't being used on a better product.

OFF Night? Or Just not worth it?
Went here for a family bday dinner and had a bad experience. Not only were there fruit fly's and bugs around our table, but the waiter spilled water all over us after hitting over a glass. We were soaked and heading to a Bway show afterwards. All he offered in return was a free App. It was sad because we are both big Bobby Flay fans and were looking forward to this night for a while. The food was average, Service other than our issues was nothing great and the prices weren't worth it. Its Hyped up because of who is the owner and founder of the resturant but based on what we saw, Bobby Flay hasn't cooked there in years nor seen what his resturant had become, sub par...

Bobby, Marry Me!
After reading all the bad reviews about the service, I decided to go anyway because I didn't hear any complaints about the food. I was pleasantly surprised on both counts. My friends and I were there on a busy Sat. night, yet the wait staff was extremely attentive. We were early, but seated promptly. I made the reserv. online and would not have agreed to sit upstairs if I had known, you just didn't get the whole feel of the place. The waiter asked if we were in a hurry or had to catch a show. Even with saying no, our food came quickly. After that all I could do was moan softly. I had the shellfish sampler to start. It was excellent and the combination of flavors was to die for. Then when my perfectally cooked steak with cheese and vidallia onions came I was ready for the alter. I also had the baked sweet potato and the spicy corn as sides. It was so good I felt like I had to go to confession afterward. My one friend had the rack of pork and it just melted in your mouth. We did not have room for dessert, and I'm glad because I'm sure I would have died from happiness. All I can say is just go and see for yourself. And Bobby, if you're listening I'd like to challenge you to a through down of Boilo from the coal region of NE Pa. (Shenandoah). I make the best!

Long time fan
I have been going to Bar Americain for a few years, and was always impressed. The steak is always great, but I will say that it has recently gone slightly down hill. Not much, but there have been some off items lately. I have since reduced my frequency of visits. As a long time Bobby Flay fan I would still recommend it.

Bar Ameri-CAN
The restaurant itself has a nice decor and ambiance. Made dinner reservations for eight. Waitstaff was attentive and our head waiter was extremely knowledgeable in our demanding yet exotic alcoholic requests. Now onto the food. We all ordered various appetizers as well as entrees. Everyone was pleasantly pleased, not blown away, with their selections. The dessert menu could be improved with the addition of a variation of a creme brulee (personal perference) and definately with the removal of the whisky eclairs which were dry and hard. Otherwise a very expensive restaurant that is geared towards the corporate deep pocket "customer".
