    way toooooo pricey

for 4 bucks i get a small tiny bun with two piece of pork :( not worth my money. the pork is def delish dont get me wrong, it has rich flavor, and could tell that it was marinated for a long time to achieve that. but the price just kills it. the place is more like grab it and go sort of atmosphere.

    Gone downhill-skip it

I guess stuff like this tends to happen when the owner spends most of his focus on becoming a short lived media darling (& opening another joint when your home base still needs attention). Been eating here since it opened and have witnessed the decline of the food here. A shame because when it was good it was worth the money. Now I steer clear.

    Not worth the price

Since I live in the neighborhood, I thought I'd stop in and try one of the buns. I ordered a Chairman Bao, which cost $4 plus tax. The meat was tender, but there wasn't much of it once I cut away inedible chunks of fat. It might be worth $1.50, but I would never again spend $4.

    Utter disappointment!

Are you kidding me?! This place doesn't even come close to night market food in Taiwan! I am a native Taiwanese and I can tell you that the pork belly is not tender enough and lacks the richness in flavor. When done right, the harmony of pork texture and soy sauce aroma simply lingers in your palate! The Chairman Bao did none of these. I presented this place with great pride to my friend came to visit from Taiwan and, I was embarrassed as she was not only unimpressed but was like, you Americans went crazy over this but for what? Eddie Huang, you can do better, please!

seriously, this place is awesome. i have become utterly addicted. the haus bao and uncle jesse are my go-tos. but also the people who work there are the bomb. Give it a chance, and you'll probably go back. Yummmm

    Try Elsewhere

Authentic Taiwanese food? If you want to fool people that has never been ther then yea, it does a pretty good job of fooling you. I went in one day since I live in the neighborhood and since I haven't had Taiwanese food like buns since I last went to Taiwan in October of 2009 I thought I'd give it a try. So I ordered the Chairman Bao and beef noodle soup. All I can say is don't go. The noodle soup was too salty and overloaded on the herbs. The beef in the soup was like jerky, yes, beef jerky. All dried and hard like the ones you get from a deli. The Buns that they rave was so good was the worst kind I could find. And for a total of 9 dollars, it was a waste of my money. The beef noodle soup at the dumpling place on eldridge was much better. The buns were a total rip-off compared to ones I had in Taiwan for 1/8th the price. The absolute worse buns I have ever had in my LIFE! As a Taiwanese person these buns and beef noodle soup were a disgrace. Decor wise it's small, street vendors in Taiwan have better service than what they offered there. This place is one place you don't want to go to. Period.

    A first and Last Experience..

Went today with my friend and we order all the Bao in the Menu. There was not a big selection to choose from. I was not impressed with the food at all. I m a lover of asian food and since i m asian too i know my food. The taste was nothing special. Kind of pricey for the portion of food. After eating three I was still not full. The environment was a little tight and not super neat. i could find better flavor and portion for half the price in chinatown. You can order the same taste of beef or steak in chinatown with the same flavor in any menu under "Beef stew" . this is one of those places that you have to go once just to try but never come back.
