Baoguette / Pho Sure

I enjoy the food and think it is a good value. However, 70% of the time, the wait-staff makes it difficult to want to return. As a result, I often enforce a self-imposed boycott for months at a time. For some unknown reason, they are often confrontational and contentious exhibiting generally obnoxious behavior. It's as though they hate their jobs and love to take it out on the paying customers. If they were to push it a little further one could think it was part of some strange dinner entertainment. I would gladly give this place a 10 and patronize it more often were it not for the mean and aggressive servers. Unfortunately, though I've looked assiduously, I haven't been able to find a place with a price/food quality ratio as good so my alternatives are second best. Over the years, there have been a few very nice, polite and efficient servers. But, they don't seem to work there for too long and they are surely missed. I do wish the owners would straighten out this issue, but I'm beginning to come to terms with the fact that they never will.

We ordered two sandwiches and a rice around 8.30 PM. One hour later, we were still waiting. Two calls to the restaurant were totally unsuccessful, as all they could say was that the delivery guy was out and they had no way of contacting him or they just wouldn't. The second time I was even told that the restaurant was already closed but that I should wait for our food. At 10 PM, I said I was canceling our order, and instead of apologizing (not even once!) they were saying I had to wait for the delivery guy and then cancel. When he finally buzzed, he was carrying like 10 delivery bags (which tells you how many places was he visiting, and probably how soggy our bread already was). We went downstairs, on our way to a restaurant to grab a bite, and the guy was just staring at us with puppy dog eyes, before he rode his bike away. Did I mention we live like 10 blocks away from the restaurant? This is no way to treat your costumers, not in NYC, not anywhere.

They must be so confident that the food will bring you back that they don't bother instructing their cashier & wait staff to be courteous. Yes, apparently it would kill them to smile or say thank you or bring everyone's food at the same time. Only worth the grumpiness if you're ordering take-out.

food is decent though surly and bitter counter "help" makes it not worth it

I am so pleased that there is finally a Vietnamese restaurant in the West Village. The banh mi and catfish sandwich are great. The pho broth is also very tasty. My only complaint is the girl who mans the cashier. She is incredibly unfriendly and barely speaks at an audible volume if she even speaks at all. She always seems offended that we are bothering her to place an order. Her sour demeanor keeps me from going more often.

We order from here a couple times a month and always have great food. The sanwiches and pho are good. Delivery is a little slow.
