Local Family Business
We love it here! The owners (a lovely husband & wife) are always there to greet you. It's such a clean comfortable place. And their weekend lunch buffet is the best on the block. Their selection is so varied, freshly cooked and very flavorful. We are always comfortable and unlike other places on the block, delivery people aren't running behind your chair thoughout your meal and you're not below street level. Tamba shouldn't be missed

Great Curry Hill choice
I recently went out for Indian food. I stopped by Dhaba, which was packed. It was so noisy, so I decided to try a different place. I'm so glad I checked out Tamba across the street. The food was great and reasonably priced, the atmosphere was civilized and it was easy to converse and the service was friendly and responsive. I'd definitely return.

Average food, poor service
The quality of the food wasn't unappetizing (however, there are so many better Indian restaurants in Murray Hill), but I'm compelled to mention several things: - My partner and I were one of three tables occupied and yet we received rude and abrupt service - The wine list is ridiculously overpriced with the cheapest bottle starting in the mid-30s - The wine list is labeled with a wine type and country and that's it. Sorry, but I'm not paying $40 for some random bottle of wine. - Tip of 18% was included in the total despite only two of us dining.

Poor Delivery
So I've been to this restaurant multiple times and ordered from them in the past. No more after last night. I ordered at 4:26pm yesterday from SeamlessWeb and I got my food at 6:35pm. They claim that they're closed from 4pm to 5pm but then they either have to reflect that on Seamless or should not have clicked accept on the Seamless email they get. When I started calling at 5:30pm the person who answered was polite but I could hear the manager in the background yelling at him in Hindi (which I can understand) as to "who is this guy? what's his problem? get the bastard off the phone". Yes, he definitely swore. When I finally got the food, it was cold. I called the restaurant to get the delivery boy (who had been gone a minute) to pick up the food and that I would call Seamless for a refund. He never came and they stopped picking up the phone when I called. Thankfully, Seamless reversed the charges and gave me a $10 discount for any other restaurant. I've raved about this restaurant and recommended it to friends in the past but after this experience, no more.

Much better service this time, excellent food
We have been here before, really enjoyed the food but detested the service and the time it took to get our food. However, we went last night and the food was excellent, and the service was really good... much improved. We timed how long it took to get our appetizers... was only 8 minutes... vast improvement over the last time we were there. Enjoyed every dish we ordered and was happy to see the service vastly improved!

Love it!
I'm from India and I'm constantly on the look out for authentic Indian food. I hate to say that most of the Indian restaurants here taper off the spices, and the food can end up tasting a little bland to us Indians. But Tamba is different. We are constantly asked how hot/spicy we'd like our food and they make the dishes accordingly. The food and service are great. We always get our appetizers and drinks right away, and the main course arrives minutes after we are done with the appetizers, so there's not a lot of waiting around. The ambience is just right as well. Soft lighting but not so dim that you can barely see your food and quite spacious and well designed. I hate it when a restaurant is extremely crowded and the tables are placed so close to each other that others can look into your table & hear your conversations, but this restaurant gives you just the right amount of space and privacy. The restaurant owners are always there and are extremely sweet and warm. The owner's wife overlooks all the cooks in the kitchen and sometimes even cooks some of the dishes herself! And I've even seen the owner helping out at the bar and making drinks a couple of times. I once had a sangria that was personally prepared by him and it was absolutely delicious! It's nice to see restaurant owners be so actively involved in preparing meals for their customers. Although I like almost everything served at this restaurant, my absolute favorites have to be the chicken tikka, Lasani gobhi, zafrani murg masala, and chana pindi. I'd definitely recommend these dishes to anyone who is visiting for the first time. The badaami kheer is amazing for dessert! I go there often (in fact my last visit was 3 days ago), and I've never had a complaint. I always have a great experience, especially considering how comparatively low the prices are!

ok food, rude management, poor waitress
I will never go here again. Thy are out to nickel and dime you, adding on any charges they think they can get away with (including mandatory gratuity for party of one). The restaurant is mostly empty, except for a few stragglers and couples (none of them Indian, who know not to come here). I felt bad for the waitress, who was trying to be nice and doing a great job.
