    Overcrowded

Went on Sunday for brunch-lunch. Place was overcrowded and noisy. Seafood and bread was very good. Skip the pasta dishes. Left the place not very impressed. I might want to give it another try before deciding!

    Overall Pretty Good

I had a good meal here. Cheeseburger and Fries, was pretty good. I also ordered the Balthazar Salad. (Just okay), Not great. Creme Brulee, was also pretty good, although the burnt sugar looked great, it tasted well burned, but once I scraped that off, the soft creme underneath, was just supreme. And the Cappucino was great. Don't think I'll be eating here again, just too expensive, and too crowded. I got seated on a Saturday Afternoon at 2 ish, immediately. But I was seated so closely to strangers. Food was good.

    Exceptional

I've been about 20 times... the food is exceptional... it is worth the wait, the crowd, the noise... try the onion soup, beef for 2, the skate and of course the deserts!

    Wonderful brunch destination

I went with a few friends for brunch on Sunday and since we didn't have a reservation, we waited for an hour before getting seated (no worries, SoHo offers plenty to do in that hour)! We ordered the bread basket which was delicious (especially the chocolate bread), and I ordered the egg bella donna which was PERFECT! It was poached to perfection, and garnished with just the right amount of cheese, sundried tomato, bacon, and greens. Other friends ordered the steak and the waffle which they also loved. Definitely going back and bringing people!

    Try the seafood!

I have always loved Balthazar's bread -- superb! But I tried that "Le Grand" which is the two-tiered seafood platter. There was plenty for two people. We had raw clams and oysters, cooked mussels and shrimp and this cilantro-lime squid/octupus salad, snails, conch and other things I can't remember. It was soo good. I was very pleased with the quality of the seafood (though the shrimp was overcooked). To note: always make a reservation. If you can't, be flexible -- 1 hour wait is standard there.

    Eh, but really depends

if you like loud crowded places, great martinis, go for it. for dinner esp, make reservations if you expect a decent table without a 2 hr wait. only certain entrees really live up to expectations, the steak being one of them. the duck confit and the skate were mediocre, but a disappointment for balthazar. good seafood ceviche, though. NOT the place for a nice romantic date, but works for a fun night out. bread is great. the butter is fantasatic. i love french butter, or whatever type of butter they used.

    My new favorite!

Recently spent a week in the city..Went to many fine restaurants...Balthazar was my favorite...What a charming and delicious little Brasserie! Yes, it is loud and tables are close together, but everyone is so happy with the meal that they are quite friendly! Love this place...I felt like I was in Paris..Best steak I have ever had, and pomme frites were perfect..Wine list is superb..Service was attentive but not overly obtrusive...Get reservations...Very popular, and that's not surprising...This is one great place for dinner! Make an evening out of it!
