    Charming and tastebuds were delighted

Balthazar's is everything people say it is. This brasserie has dim lighting, shiny red leather seats, and aging walls that lend to its antiqued vibe. The seats are a bit cramped, but the food was exquisite. I had the goat cheese tart that was so fluffy it melted in my mouth. The sauteed cod wasn't good, so don't get that (overly salty) but the bellini martinis are a must to start your dinner off right. I asked for chocolate bread, and the waiter happily obliged to my request and went out of the way to get it for me. He didn't even charge me for it, and I was so happy. The DESSERT--Banana Riccotta Tart was sooooo good you MUST get it. A blend of vanilla ice cream, buttery crust, and carmelized bananas on top smothered ina light caramel sauce was simply irrestible and we gobbled it up too quickly. A word of advice, get your own dessert and don't share! It's pricey but DEFINIITELY worth it. if you're going to complain about the price then you should not even bother coming here, it's truly an experience and worth the money you spend.

    I think I'm in love

Balthazar is in my neighbourhood, and I have to say it is one of the more fun and fabulous places I have had the pleasure of going. I think the atmosphere is what I love the most, the bright beautiful decor, fresh flowers, bar. The seafood tower is outstanding, including oysters, mussels, lobster, shrimp and the best scallop seviche I have ever had. Round out your meal with french fries with house made mayonaise, and a salad, and there is really nothing else you need. Maybe a martini or a great glass of wine. I don't eat red meat, but my family assures me that the steak is excellent and cooked to order. Excellent, expert service staff, friendly bartenders, the only bad part is the wait. But it's always worth it!

    Amazing Service!

I went to enojoy a nice dinner when I came into town from California and was blown away by every element of Balthazar!!! The service was the best part of the experience. The food was good but vegetarian choices were not that plentiful. But our waiter was on top of table and made us feel like we were the only people in there! I will definitely come back and eat there every time I am in NYC!

I booked a table weeks in advance and couldn't wait to go. However it was a disappointing experience. The food was not so great and totally over priced- do not order the carbanora! For one of the most talked about places in New York I couldnt see what all the fuss was about. The building itself is lovely though.

    Probably won't go back

The restaurant was very noisy, the service was not great, and the food was average. I probably won't go back.

    Perfect Dinner!

We loved this place. Our reservation was for 6:30, we arrived at 6:15 and were seated immediately. The food was delicious the service impeccable and the atmosphere fun and lively, just a little noisy. I hope to visit this restaurant again some day.

Exactly like a real french Bistro

having lived in france for several years, going to balthazar is like revisiting my second home, complete with genuine french waiters and yummy french food. I'd recommend the chicken paillard and the goat cheese tart. delicious! the desserts are outstanding as well, so are the celeb sightings, the first time i came i saw hank azaria and the second i saw tim robbins! The only thing is it's quite loud, perfect for a group of friends but not so good for a date. Its also pretty overpriced, but the food is good enough to splurge on once in a while
