    Poor experience

We have been loyal customers of Balthazar for some time now -- and normally are very pleased with our experiences there. However, today EVERYTHING was off!! Our reservation was lost, and instead of being graciously seated, we were hastily shoved into a wobbily table in front of the restaurant entrance...where we were subjected not only to the inconvience of other customers crowding around us, but patchwork waitstaff service. Our coffee was spilled, juice order was forgotten, and our meal was not only mediocre but we were dismissed the moment the food was delivered. Every moment of the meal felt rushed, and every request that we made felt like an afterthought. (For example, we kindly asked for a newspaper and we were brought a day-old copy.) There are PLENTY of other great restaurants in New York that we will happily give our business to. Balthazar certainly didn't live up to its reputation.

    Great restaurant

My sister, a chef, recommended Balthazar to us on our latest trip to NYC, and we were not disappointed. My wife, son and I each had a delicious meal. We were fortunate enough to be seated in the back at a booth, so it was not noisy and gave us a good vantage point over the rest of the restaurant. The atmoshpere is great; reminiscent of a Parisian bistro. We enjoyed a bottle of the house wine which was tasty and reasonably priced. We thought our meal was a good value. We'll definitely return.

    Great Service. Good Food.

We went last night, had a group of eight, and were treated so well. The waiter was extremely patient with our rowdy crew, and made some very good wine recommendations. The food was good overall, with the goat cheese appetizer and the scallops being the best of what was ordered at our table. The tables were a bit close together, but the atmosphere was fun. Will definitely go again.

    Great recommendation

It was recommended to us as we were about to go on our first visit to New York in September 2006 by my hairdresser. He said it was his favourite place to eat in NY and I agree with him entirely it's absolutely a great place to eat in New York. Lots of hussle and bussle and wonderful food and wine. We loved it and will be returning to New York over Christmas and will definitely pay them a visit or two.

I love, love, love this place

My fiance took me here for my birthday last year and it's just as incredible as everyone says and more.. I'd highly recommend it.

    So Parisian!

This place is wonderful! My husband and I just returned from Paris, France celebrating our 10th year Wedding anniversary. Before that every year we traveled from Southern New Jersey to NYC to celebrate our anniversary at this fabulous restaurant. Its magical and it takes you for one evening to the bistros in Paris. An enjoyable evening from start to finish.

    Lived up to my expectations!

We had a 10pm reservation here on a Saturday night. It was a good thing we had one, because the people that were coming in without one had an hour or more wait. The service was the best we experienced in our four day trip to NYC- by far. The food was also very good. The onion soup is to die for- highly recommend! Although we didn't order the seafood bar, many people did and it looked incredible. We will definitely be trying that on our next visit. And there will be a next visit.
