Can't get real Indonesian food here.
I was expecting what i think of as a real (or at least close) Indonesian meal here and did not get anything close at all. The Pepes Ikan is not as I expected. Terong Balado is nice and spicy. They have too much sauce on their menu which are not Indonesian sauce. However, the staff are friendly and helpful. The food is quite pricey for something that are not authentic. For that price, I'd rather go to Chinese restaurant and get a more authentic food.

Excellent!
I went to this restaraunt not expecting a lot. But, when i came out i had a smile on my face and a full belly. This food is unbelieveable and by far the best indonesian food i've ever had. The service is good and it has a nice atmosphere. I loved the desert menu. I have nothing bad to say about this restaraunt. Congratultions!

Try it , you'll love it
This is one of the best Indonesian Restaurant around. Consistently good and satisfying. My wife and I never missed a chance to eat at this restaurant every time we come to the City to see the show. Conveniently located near the theather district. Good food and reasonably priced.

Best Indonesian Food in NYC
My first time experiencing Indonesian food was at the famous Nusantara restaurant.(no longer in operation) Very classy and great food. Bali Nusa Indah has a very humble and a homey feeling. The staff are very friendly and attentative. I've tried many Indonesian restaurants in the city and in Queens. Nothing beats Bali Nusa Indah. Don't be fooled by the store front. Once in ide,the decor is very traditional and the food out of this world. I go to this restaurnant for lunch, dinner or special occasions.I recommend this to first timers and Indonesians looking for some food from back home.

A Wonderful Theatre District Find
Another terrific little find on 9th Avenue. Stopped in here Saturday 4/2 for a pre-matinee lunch. A hideous storefront belies a charming little white-tablecloth restaurant, with attentive staff and wonderful food. We had a lunch special for $18.50, including salad or soup, entree, wine, and dessert. This special featured salad with a nice, slightly sweet peanut dressing, a huge bowl with little samples of chicken sate, lamb curry, string beans in a lovely sauce, fried bean curd in yet another lovely sauce, and while the dish also includes fried prawns, the staff kindly substituted a tasty, coconut-laced chicken curry without me having to ask for a substitution -- all surrounding a mound of rice. Everything was beautifully prepared, fresh, and tasty. The meal was topped off with the best dessert I've ever had -- a "banana island", which is a 1/2 banana wrapped in a light dough and crisp fried, served with a tiny dollop of vanilla ice cream and a brown sugar syrup. Unbelievably good. Stay away from the tourist traps in the theatre district and duck into the charming place on 9th Avenue with the hand-scrawled menu on the outside wall.

Close to Theatres and Delightful
My family of out-of-towners wanted to avoid Times Square tourist traps for lunch before our Spamalot matinee, and this block of 9th is only two (crosstown) blocks from the Shubert Theatre, among others. This was our favorite meal, of many good ones, of our NYC visit. My family, including a 10-year-old an a 14-year-old, had a wonderful time here. The decor was very attractive, with Indonesian masks, textiles, and such displayed on white walls, and the service was very friendly and helpful. We loved everything, including the desserts (especially Lapis Legit, Indonesian Cinnamon Layercake). Most of the food is a bit spicy, but only enough to put off the blandest tastes. Our youngest can't handle spice well but was happy with the seafood sate.

A great introduction to Indonesian food
This is a great little place with wonderful food, and few frills, but just enough to make it comfortable. We gathered with old friends for about three hours one weekday night and we were treated wonderfully and weren't rushed. The food was excellent and the value was great.
