Close to Theatres and Delightful
My family of out-of-towners wanted to avoid Times Square tourist traps for lunch before our Spamalot matinee, and this block of 9th is only two (crosstown) blocks from the Shubert Theatre, among others. This was our favorite meal, of many good ones, of our NYC visit. My family, including a 10-year-old an a 14-year-old, had a wonderful time here. The decor was very attractive, with Indonesian masks, textiles, and such displayed on white walls, and the service was very friendly and helpful. We loved everything, including the desserts (especially Lapis Legit, Indonesian Cinnamon Layercake). Most of the food is a bit spicy, but only enough to put off the blandest tastes. Our youngest can't handle spice well but was happy with the seafood sate.

A great introduction to Indonesian food
This is a great little place with wonderful food, and few frills, but just enough to make it comfortable. We gathered with old friends for about three hours one weekday night and we were treated wonderfully and weren't rushed. The food was excellent and the value was great.

Very good, reasonably priced Indonesian
Bali Nusa Indah on a cold rainy night certainly hit the spot. I ordered a hot beef dish in chili sauce which was named Bali something (it?s not on the listed menu) while my girlfriend ordered the Ayam Opor. As a result of the MenuPages reviews we also split an order of the Nasi Goreng. The food came out nice and hot and was full of flavor. The Bali dish was fairly spicy, but the spiciness did not overpower the other flavors. The portion was large enough too. I probably should have taken some home but instead I finished it all right there. The Ayam Opor was also flavorful, with just the right amount of sweetness from the coconut milk. The Nasi Goreng was good, although I felt like I could have ordered it anywhere with fried rice on the menu. And always an important consideration; the water service was impeccable. Overall, Bali Nusa Indah was a welcomed change from the usual Thai and Chinese food around Hell?s Kitchen, and the prices were reasonable enough that I would go back.

Brings back my old memories
I used to live in indonesia for 10 years, so you know me and my judgement on Indonesian food. The food at this place is great. You can't find any better place than here in the city. They serve a lot and the place is clean. It brings back my old memories. I tried Sate, Nasi Goreng, Mie Goreng, and Gado-Gado. They were all good.

Best Indonesian in NYC
By far the best Indonesian food in New York. The food is very well cooked with the right proportions. Large Servings. And very reasonably priced. Service is quick - and the place is neat and well decorated. Must try the Nasi Goreng ... it really shows the skill of the chefs, and the commitment of the restaurant to serving authentic food. All the other dishes are amazing too. I have been there a couple times, and tried different things everytime - and everything is really good - the place has not failed me..

Wonderful food!
Very tasty food - you'll eat everything on your plate. Never had Indonesian food before, but the spices are just a tad different from Malaysian or Indian. Wonderful food! A whole busload of Indonesians came in while we were there, so that can only be a good thing. The prices are CHEAP, especially for the great quality of food you get. The staff is very nice and attentive. The decor of the place is not good, but can be easily overlooked for the other perks.

Amazing value
I went here last night. Perhaps the best complete dinner deal in NYC. For $18 you get a full meal, beer or wine and dessert. I'm only raving about because the food was so good. If you are like me and live for variety you'll love it. There were maybe 8 different dishes on my plate. Sure, the room is bland and could use a makeover but who cares at these prices. I'm a huge foody and always looking for value and quality and I have to say I was really impressed by this place.
