    Truly terrible meal

My friend and I had the worst curry here. She had chicken curry which lacked any real flavor except for salt. It tasted like chicken broth and cornstarch. I had a roti canai. The roti was fine, but the curry was bland (indeed it was likely the same as my friends). I did have a seafood soup which was passable. Would never go here again.

23.5% tip added to the bill - "that's usual, here in NY"

We visited Bali Nusa Indah tonight with a party of 7. The food was not spectacular but okay and the special menues they offer give you the possibility to try different entrees, salads, soups, etc. ... We actually enjoyed the dinner - until the check arrived: to a 148 usd bill, the owner added 35 usd tip, adding the tax to the total of 183 usd. When we "dared" to reduce the tip to 19%, the waiter rudely pointed out, that we didn't pay enough. When we answered, that we believed that it is up to the customer to evaluate the service, he told us that "it is common, here in NY, that 23,5% are added to the check". We might have talked German - yes. They might have thought that we were tourists; but excuse me, all the years I have been living here, never has a restaurant added such a large tip and tried to tell me that "that's the way it goes".

First time but certainly not my last!

I wanted to take my husband to a place we've both never been before for his birthday. Although a bit small the food was truly excellent. The service was very nice. I called ahead to set up a little surprise for him and the staff was very accomadating. Any place that can get my carnivore husband to eat salad and such an impossibly picky eater to clear his plate is an absolute treasure in my book. This is the first time we've been here but we will definetely be back.

    A Rare find

Been to Bali Nusa Indah 3 times. In short: 1. The food quality is good, the quantities are plentiful. 2. Best simple desert: fried banana pilaf type pastry with caramel and vanilla ice cream. Trust me, you will not be disaapointed. 3. Order the variety meal that comes with rice, appetizers and samples of different dishes. A lot of fun and a symphony of taste. Price is moderate for quality. Servers are nice and attentive. Decor is not where it could be, but you will soon forget the decor when you start eating those crazy good rice crackers!

    Not for me

I wanted to try this place because it received high marks on menupages, and I appreciate a good peanut sauce. Upon entering, the space has a musty kind of odor that is not totally repellent but still unpleasant. I ordered tofu and noodles with peanut sauce, and it's definitely not the kind of peanut sauce I'm used to. I'm addicted to Penang's peanut sauce, and this one was a watered-down, less-appetizing version of it. I think the people serving us were the owners (mom-and-pop duo), and they were attentive but a smile or two would have been nice. Overall, my experience wasn't awful, but I will not be returning.

    enjoyable experience

We are veteran Indian food lovers and had never tried Indo food. I think it was great and my wife and two younger kids did too. The curry sauce had coconut flavor and medium spice and was delicious along with the fried rice with chicken. Everything was great. Service was prompt and courteous. Great place to go before theater as we were in and out in about one hour dining comfortably. Would go again.
